Re: Cyrix Cx5x86 VM's corrupting drive images?
I've tried a combination of VM's with Cx5x86 CPU's and they all seem corrupt the drive image when running Windows 95/98. Anyone else run into this? I did a search and couldn't find anything so I'm sorry if this has been brought up before. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U. 1) Have you had this problem wi...

Re: Maximizing PCem performance
Specifically, you need at least 5 cores to run the main CPU + Voodoo 3 with 4 rendering threads. 6 - Voodoo cards have a FIFO/setup thread in addition to the rendering threads. Thanks, good to know. And thanks tk421 and leilei; I wasn't aware that the Voodoo 3 doesn't have SLI, and just sort-of ass...

Re: Maximizing PCem performance
Check the number of rendering threads used in Voodoo 3 settings. If there are 4, set them to 2. This might help solve some of the performance issues you're having. Specifically, you need at least 5 cores to run the main CPU + Voodoo 3 with 4 rendering threads. Leaving aside the issue of not having ...

Re: A design suggestion for PCEM
I like to see disk activity all the time. That is why the engineers who designed the computers put the hd led. Any virtualizer offers this. Fair enough. :) I don't have enough experience with emulators to say how many, as a percentage, offer that option. But I'm willing to accept an assertion that ...

This isn't really the same bug I would think but I updated my 98se to v17 last night Today I was playing a few things Jedi knight 2 and Sub colture. Re: PCem v17 running slow/lagging
I don't know what options are available for Ryzen machines, but on my Xeon machine, turning off hyper threading and disabling the clock down feature (so the cpu is running at full clock constantly) improved performance noticeably. Interesting. What CPU(s) could you run with hyper-threading and cloc...

Re: A design suggestion for PCEM
I find it very uncomfortable to have to keep bringing the machine window forward all the time to see disk activity. Why do you need to see disk activity? If it is spending 10+ seconds to display the contents of a drive, that may be cause for a bug report. Otherwise, I find it strange that disk acti...

Which indicates that the problems reported with Daggerfall in this post:
viewtopic.php?p=14897#p14897
are due to a PII/233MHz CPU being too fast for Daggerfall.

Did mouse acceleration exist in Win98? you might want to turn it on/off.CryptidWorks wrote: ↑Sun 27 Dec, 2020 12:13 am One ongoing thing I've noticed in PCEM is issues with the mouse movement feeling weird like the acceleration or scaling isn't quite right. At least in Windows 98SE.

Turning off cache doesn't make performance miracles. Here's a P2 233 caches.jpg So so far, based on information around the forum, turning off the CPU's internal cache has sped up Daggerfall and Civ 2, but slowed down Quake 3. Neither Daggerfall nor Civ 2 use the Voodoo/3D graphics card (Daggerfall ...

So related to this and the other thread you made; but the other thread is Daggerfall-specific, so I put it here: PCem AMD k6; CPU Internal Cache on/off, and 166MHz vs 300MHz, on a Ryzen 2700x with 3200MHz RAM; letting the machine idle in the Civ 2 main menu: CPU Internal Cache on: 166MHz/100% vs 300...

Re: Request - Rendition Verite V1000
Why would you want Verite support in PCem only to emulate Rendition APIs? IMHO, a PCem with Verite support would emulate a real PC with that card, on which the APIs would run natively, provided you install the drivers :) If you really want to emulate the APIs, then current PCem should do, but you w...

Recompiler cache constantly creating and removing blocks when running games
So far I've only tested this in Civilization II and Interstate '76, but the results are consistent with both: Whether sitting in a menu or playing the game, recompiler blocks are constantly being created, removed, and sometimes evicted. I'm not an expert on caches; however, this seems strange to me....

Re: v15 compatibility & bug list (WIP)
You can see how much CPU time the Voodoo threads are taking in the PCem status window. The percentage before the frames/sec line is the FIFO thread (though I think this is a grotesque overestimate, and counts the time this thread waits on the render threads), the two percentages below frames/sec ar...
