Re: MMX 233Mhz or Mobile MMX 266/300?

Have you tried the K6-2 350 Mhz cpu? I tried that with the game Elite Force (circa 2000), and even though I ran PCem v15 through a VMWare virtual machine I had surprisingly good performance throughout the game. It was not perfect, but it ran fairly well. Just in case you are not familiar with Elite ...

Re: Sound lag.

PCem seems to run very well with a CPU running at 4 Ghz or more. I ran system tests on the i7 8750H and i7 9750H CPUs, and the latter is much more PCem-friendly, while the former could run most 166 MMX tasks well. The 9750H works at about 4.15 Ghz, which is fine for almost any game, but if the sound...

Re: Weird ram problem

I am not sure what the effect of allocating massive amounts of RAM to an old 386 or 486 would have on performance. Typically I only allocate the same amount of RAM that these old systems would have had back in 1992 or even 1995. It was normal for a Win95 pc to have 16mb of RAM. I know that adding mo...

Re: Possiblity of implementing cache emulation

I can say that I agree with the current development of PCem. I think the devs are following a logical and straightforward design strategy that has so far produced a very nice program that runs well on modern PCs. Obviously the power of the host CPU is key to using this program. I think perfect cache...

Re: CD-ROM problem of PCem V15

I apologize. It is my mistake. Reinstalling Win98 did fix this issue. The K6-2 450 is running Jedi Knight at about 100% in-game.

leilei, shall I remove these two posts of mine here? I do not want these posts to burden the thread.

Re: CD-ROM problem of PCem V15

Have you tried the FIC VA-503+ super socket 7 motherboard with v15? I have been trying to test high end K6-2 and K6-III cpus but I lose the CD-ROM drive, and many system drivers including display adapter drivers in WIn98 whenever I run this motherboard in PCem. This is very odd. I can run the CD-ROM...

Thank you.

I am glad PCem provides accurate emulation for these CPUs. I will do my best to fix this Windows Protection Error. If this is not possible, then loading Windows 98 will not be a problem.

Re: v15 released!

I have finally had the chance to try v15 on a modern laptop. It is a Lenovo laptop using the Intel Core i7 9750H processor. The cpu in question can exceed 4 Ghz, with speeds of 4.15 Ghz not uncommon. From time to time the machine will reach 4.25 ghz. I have seen spurts of 4.33 Ghz, even moments with...

Re: v15 released!

So far I think v15 is a success. I am limited in what I can do with an old AMD A8 laptop, but with a new PC I should be able to do more thorough testing of the new features. I am glad it was not too difficult to install and run the Super Socket 7 CPUs, including the K6 line. I am sure it will work w...

Re: v15 compatibility & bug list (WIP)

With the FIC-VA503+ selecting high clock rate for the K6-2 or K6-III result wrongly detected by the BIOS. eg. if you select the K6-2/533 it will display as if it were a 526 mhz - a 500 k6-2 the bios will see it as a 481 mhz I am glad to have had the chance to try PCem v15. It works fine in WinXP, w...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update

I am sure v15 will be a big success. I am not sure which kind of CPU speed I would need to run a K6-2 cpu, but that would be really interesting to know. I am currently waiting for the new 9th gen laptops to be available for purchase. I would have purchased the new Alienware area 51m laptop by now, b...

Newer X-Wing Games and PCem

I have completed a test series of the i7 8750H laptop CPU on an MSI laptop using PCem. The only games I could not get working were the newer X-Wing games, mainly X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance and the X-Wing Collector Series (usually referred to as XWING 95 and TIE95). To be fair, these game...

Good day, May I ask if PCem can support blindwrite CD image files? I have one game, NHL 2000, and no matter what it will not load in PCem. Re: PCem and laptop i7 8550u CPU

Thank you for your reply. The only reason I considered this cpu at all was because of its turbo speed of 4 Ghz. My previous PCem tests on an old AMD 6 core 2.7 Ghz CPU suggested that PCem would make full use of a CPU's turbo speed. In the case of that old desktop cpu, the boost speed was 3.11 Ghz. P...

Re: [Request] Nvidia Riva 128 , TNT, TNT2 ,Matrox video cards

I had a TNT 2 Riva and a Voodoo 3 back in the day. I am not sure about this, but from I read online today, 2 Voodoo 2 cards in SLI mode were supposed to outperform the TNT 2. I always remembered the Voodoo 3 more fondly than the old nvidia card I had back then. This is nothing against the nvidia car...

Re: 266MMX slower than P70

The top speed of the Pentium I was typically 233 MMX. That would have been a good system going into 1998, and that is what I am trying to emulate myself with a new PC purchase. Ideally I would simply buy a laptop with that PCem-friendly capability, but this is hard to do today. If I bought a desktop...

I concur with the feedback provided here regarding the use of the Voodoo 2 with WinXP. It was a great OS, although I did prefer Win98. Today the best way to run WinXP would be VMWare or VirtualBox. Overall, I found the 3D graphics capabilities of VMWare to be far superior to VirtualBox, especially f...

I will do everything I can to run PCem with a beautiful P233 MMX and Voodoo 2 SLI emulated system. I am hoping the i7 8700...

If you check dxdiag in Windows 98, or even in Windows 95 (with DirectX version 7 installed), you will be able to read the Voodoo 2 video memory. Mine always showed 12mb in non-SLI mode, and 16mb with SLI mode enabled. Thankfully the PCem readme indicated that both the 8mb and 12mb variants are emula...

Hi, After what seems like a biblical search for a new PC, I seem to have settled on one of two Intel CPUs, the i7 7700k or the 8700k. I can confirm that the 6 dll files do come with v13 and not with v13.1, but this still makes no difference.
