Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: MichaelJManley taking over as PCem maintainer
Welcome back! PCEm is too good to just die like this, I'm glad you managed to find a comfortable arrangement for all of this.

Re: Bitbucket deleting all Mercurial repositories on June 1, 2020?
I don't think it's much of a problem. Like Sarah said, either she could host the Mercurial repo herself, or just switch to a Git version system. I do think there are plenty of guides on how to convert a hg repo to a git one, so it doesn't seem it would be too big of a hassle.

Re: Can we have a PCem BIOS datfile?
I would completely second this, although in a bit of a different way. There is a known list of roms that are required for the different systems, but there is no good way to see the completion of the set. It would be great to have a list of rom files, and their availability: something like "Syst...

Thank you!! It's really exciting to get more commit notifications in the mail, especially after all this time where we were in the dark on the recompiler work. Was really excited to see that "Update version number to v15." Keep it up!

Re: Unexplained Slowdown?
Your screenshot doesn't show the titlebar of the PCEm window. In there a percentage is displayed. That percentage shows how much of the expected performance you are able to reach. If you see 100% that means PCEm is able to run full speed, and the performance matches the machine. If it is lower than ...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
It's currently private due to the major potential for performance and compatibility regressions during development. I'm hoping to merge it back to trunk in the next few weeks. It's nice to hear that progress is still ongoing. Waiting patiently for new updates, hope things are working out smoothly!

If you found that this way is better in the long term, then more power to you. Not everyone is able to carry such a big project for so long, so whatever feels right!

Re: Donations?
I don't remember exactly, but wasn't there a point against financial support, like it would become too much of a job, or give too much pressure? I'd be willing to donate montly, and others would, at the very least a small amount, but that's OK only if Sarah is OK with that.

Re: [Possible Bug?] Blank CGA
It would be useful to have all the rom files required for your current configuration listed in a new tab or maybe a completely new window that lists all the files that PCem looks or might look for and their status (with checksums even to make sure it's the right file).

Re: PCem MSYS2 build guide (with wxWidgets)
You also have to copy liblzma-5.dll from the mingw32/bin folder, and make sure you run the initial pacman -Syu (restart) pacman -Su commands when you install msys2. Other than that it works beautifully!

If you are using MinGW I suppose you are on Windows. Get TortoiseHG (https://tortoisehg.bitbucket.io/), it's easier than command line tools.

Your build environment
I was looking through different posts regarding stability and compiling and I realized that almost everyone is using different environments to build their versions from source. What is yours? Mine is (Windows): MinGW (latest) CMake (latest) GCC 4.7.2-1 libmpfr 2.4.1-1 libmpc 0.8.1-1 w32api 3.18.2 Op...

Re: Dynamic recompiler
Szadycbr the whole task that PCem is performing is serial. It would require not recompiling, but complete rewriting of each and every application You want to parallelize. Going parallel is not a magic bullet - if it was then everything would be massively parralel, and now it's mostly for certain tas...

Re: Dynamic recompiler
Szadycbr - if You move something to a separate thread You must synchronize and with the amount of things PCem does - it might very well actually be slower. The performance drop could be because You are not using SSD to run PCem and the underlying HDD emulation is more complex disk access wise than d...

Re: Cannot compile a working executable
PCem doesn't compile on newest versions of GCC and Leilei advised me to use 4.7.2 which is definitely known to work with PCem. It looks like it's a different issue - the app compiles bus doesn't run properly. Make sure You are using GCC 4.7.2 from the guide and try again. Post up if You mange to do ...

Re: FPS to 50% in Win98
Szadycbr - You're wrong. The PCem title bar will show 100% when You run something like IBM 5150 - Voodoo wasn't even a baby back then. Looking at the physical CPU usage PCem doesn't max out a single core if the processor is performing well and when it does max out a core then the performance in PCem...

Re: FPS to 50% in Win98
Percent in the titlebar represent how much of the intended speed of the emulated processor Your actual PC is able to reach. 50% means that a Pentium 133 MHz is actually running at something like 66,5 MHz jsut because Your PC is unable to make it run faster. What are Your actual PC specs? If You mana...

If we'd want virtualization there's VirtualBox, there's Win3mu (still in the works I hope) and there's of course VMWare, a huge company, Qemu, Bochs... PCem is its own thing, and that's what makes it what it is - unique!

Re: Can we make PCem much faster?
Android version is interesting, since there have been efforts to make a Linux version that runs on Allegro, and Allegro technically works on Android, but I higly doubt the performance on most Android devices (save for the high-end ones) will be sufficient enough for it even if it works at all! I rea...

Re: Can we make PCem much faster?
Regarding offloading instructions - not emulating every instruction would be against what PCem is going for and it wouldn't really work, and newer versions of PCem do offload some of the work to processor directly with the recompiler, right? I'm taking a guess here, but it would be extremely hard an...
