Re: [Linux/WSL] Host to guest mapping tool
Although the tool was developed on and for Linux and it uses a lot of "non portable linux functions" like mmap, fallocate or fstatfs, so compiling with cygwin/mingw isn't unfortunately an option, the tool runs flawlessly with WSL (Windows subsystem for Linux, tested with debian, but should...

Re: [Linux] Host to guest mapping tool
Good news! Tested it with Windows 98. If you change the properties of the drive, which is associated with the swap42 image, to "removable" (hardware manager) Windows detects filesystem changes by itself so it's possible to do a rescan even for Windows 98 as guest OS (if windows monitors it...

[Linux/WSL] Host to guest mapping tool
Hi, creating images, mounting them and file sharing can be annoying, especially with MSDOS as guest OS without network sharing, so I coded this little tool to map a host directory to a raw hdd image, which could be refreshed from inside the guest, so cross development and testing is possible like wi...

Re: Clustersize (and other things) ignored by MSDOS?
Interestingly enough MSDOS calculates disk size wrong (number of sectors per partition in VBR at offeset 0x20 doesn't change), when cluster size is set to 1024 (2 sectors) (chkdsk tells just half of size) .. but not, if cluster size is equal or above 2048 ... maybe you have another hint :D It was m...

Re: Clustersize (and other things) ignored by MSDOS?
I don't think that changing parameters on a filesystem is a wise move, it would lead to a heavily corrupt filesystem (did you try to execute chkdsk after that?). Of course, kids, don't try this at home ;) ... but not in my case, since it's my own tool that creates the image and pre-formats it :ugee...

Clustersize (and other things) ignored by MSDOS?
Hi folks, I created an empty hdd image (one primary partition) which is mounted as Drive D (different machines from i286 to 486). The machines use MS DOS 5.0 (the image creation process is part of a tool I'm coding atm). The hdd image is derived from CHS 733, 7, 17 specification and (even automatica...

Yeah, thanks, looks promising! Although I do not know what the image of the monitor looks like in the original, the shader provides an image that looks quite authentic! Re: Best Shades for authentic crt display?
I'm assuming you don't have the proper video drivers installed as you may lack a OpenGL ICD (i.e. Windows' own WARP GL->D3D wrapper for their stock drivers doesn't implement everything) I'm using PCem for Linux with a OpenGL 3 compatible GPU .. it seems to be a problem - probably - caused by PCem -...

VGA Emulation - CRTC settings

I see the point, but in most cases standard software won't see any difference?! .. how will the special machine types perform compared to the real machines? Can I expect that for example the Commodore PC30-III emulation will (nearly) have the same performance like the original machine?

There are a lot of special machines emulated. But what is the advantage/disadvantage of using for example an AMI 286 clone vs. Epson PC AX or Dell System 200 ? Are the special systems more accurate emulated ? And if it matters, which one of the 286s models would you recommend ?
