PCem USB support

After a few weeks of work, I have managed to implement USB support on the PIIX3 southbridge similar to the implementation on the VIA southbridge which this program emulates. The tests were performed with the Shuttle HOT-557 (BIOS dated 08/15/96), Windows 95 OSR2.0, and the rare 1996 version of the U...

Re: PCem USB support

There is USB support in PCem, however it does not extend to adding interfacing with actual host ports of the same type (the same thing applies to the parallel and serial ports as well). The USB support is present in the FIC VA-503+ motherboard and its VIA VT82C586B southbridge chipset, after install...

Re: null-modem emulation

Plus, there are games that won't work with network, just modem and null-modem like the first Command & Conquer If anyone is interested in porting the null modem and modem code from DOSBox to PCem, here is the code from the DOSBox source code website: Null modem: https://sourceforge.net/p/dosbox/cod...

Re: null-modem emulation

This idea seems to have a potential beyond just adding emulation of null modem serial cables, it could be also used to add emulation of actual modems (and their chipsets), and possibly allow web browsing at dial-up speeds. There is modem emulation in DOSBox using TCP/IP interfacing and Hayes AT mode...

Re: v16 compatibility & bug list (WIP)

Is the RAM not counting after a soft reboot (via CTRL-ALT-DEL or Windows 9x restart) normal? In previous versions, when either of these resets were performed, the BIOS RAM counting would occur like it does on a cold boot or a hard reset. (Issue shows on Shuttle HOT-557). Yes, that's totally normal....

Re: [Patch] Sound Blaster AWE32 RAM selection

You definitely cannot use more than 28MB by means of the AWE32 API, because the addresses that would permit addressing those 4 remaining megabytes address the internal ROM memory. About 4MB and 16MB, that's more about hardware accuracy. You had to use two 30pin SIMM modules ( https://en.wikipedia.o...

[Patch] Sound Blaster AWE32 RAM selection

I have created a patch which allows the selection of RAM sizes of 4MB, 16MB and 32MB on the Sound Blaster AWE32 sound card.

Contrary to official Creative documentation, the EMU8000 can handle these RAM amounts.

The patch is attached below.

Looks broken. Tried it on the Diamond Stealth 32 and it flickers like heck. [Bug] Sid and Al's Incredible Toons

In this game, while running it in either a Windows 9x DOS window or real mode MS-DOS, the screen appears to be duplicated at the top, and it flashes rapidly. This issue occurs on the S3 Virge 325 and DX, the ATI Mach64 cards, and the PCI Trident cards. (these are the cards that I tested for this iss...

Re: Speed timings for emulated hard disks

Is that really a level accuracy we need? Most people aren't going to choose to emulate a terrible and slow old HDD over the modern 7200RPM unit or even SSD the HDD image is saved to. It will help with historical accuracy, as PCem has this already with CPU speeds, CD-ROM speeds and timings for video...

Video BIOS messages not showing up on startup before BIOS POST screen

I have noticed that in PCem versions before 13, (up to PCem v12) if a graphics card had a startup message in its ROM, it would appear for a few seconds before the motherboard BIOS POST screen appears. From PCem v13 onwards, the graphics card startup messages in its ROM still appear, but they appear ...

Re: AudioPCI impressions

The crackling does not appear to be game related, I have also heard the crackling on all programs that utilize MIDI playback.

Also, the digital sound no longer works on DOS Miles Sound System based games, and detecting the card in such a game fails, followed by a very high pitched whine.

The drivers that I am using are from 1999 (SBPCI.VXD and SBPCI9X.DRV have a date of 10/19/1999)

I am using the latest tree of PCem, and I am using the VXD AudioPCI drivers. (the Creative-designed drivers with SB16 emulation)

Re: [Request] Sound Blaster Live! Support

The soundblaster AWE32 and AWE64 use the EMU8000 chip for wavetable synthesis. The soundblaster Live uses the EMU10K1 chip. Re: SB16 MIDI in Windows ME

Windows ME's support for DOS applications is rather shaky compared to Windows 95 or 98 (and it does not have support for Real Mode DOS), so I would recommend you use either Windows 95 or 98 for using DOS applications, as they both have support for Real Mode DOS and DOS box support.

Would it be possible to have Sound Blaster Live! emulation in PCem?

Since there is AWE32 support already (albeit with missing reverb and chorus), how much work would be required to implement it, and would it also have the same missing features as the AWE32 if it were to be implemented?
