Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: MichaelJManley taking over as PCem maintainer

I didn't even half to answer this but it felt good to answer such a retarded ass notion! lol. That is a very, very rude remark, Michael 😞 Well, that is what is known as a harsh reality check and it is what happens when you waste the time of a person who does exist and has more important things to d...

Re: Close PCem after Windows Shutdown

It may be Windows 98 SE itself, sometimes hangs during shutdown, there was a patch for it called "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement" but it's no longer available from MS, the file name is "239887UP.EXE" Download it here: https://www.computerhope.com/download/win98/239...

You're welcome!
It will be portable again in the future, a lot of people requested that, but I don't know if it will be for the release of v18 or before... or later :?

Now on Windows PCem stores the ROMs, NVRs, configs, etc. in a subfolder called .pcem inside your Windows user folder, such as C:\Users\yourusername\.pcem (on Linux it's ~/.pcem)

Re: [Sep 2020 ed.] PCem MSYS2 build guide (with wxWidgets)

It is not necessary to download the dll's from the internet, which can also be dangerous if you download a copy infected with a virus. If you have installed MSYS2 in C:\msys64 then all the needed dll's are in: C:\msys64\mingw64\bin for MSYS2 MinGW 64-bit and: C:\msys64\mingw32\bin for MSYS2 MinGW 32...

Bochs now has its own LGPL'd VGABIOS with Voodoo Banshee specific code called VGABIOS-lgpl-latest-banshee ( https://bochs.sourceforge.io/doc/docbook/user/voodoo-notes.html ) So I copied "VGABIOS-lgpl-latest-banshee" to "2k11sd.rom", "3k12sd.rom", "pci_sg.rom" ...

Re: How to send ALT-TAB inside PCEM?

PCem captures the Windows key so Windows shouldn't show the task switcher... but I'm not sure if any Windows version takes preference over PCem for the Windows key, I have been using only Windows 10 ever since it was offered as a free upgrade. Anyway, by the time a solution is implemented it can giv...

Re: [Patch] Mouse speed in the emulator is too high #150

Apart from moving the code to wx-sdl-mouse.c I have slightly modified it and now it seems to work better with Windows guests, inlcuding MS-DOS programs that can run in windowed mode within Windows. But I get the feeling that for MS-DOS and other OS's that use text modes or low resolution graphics, a...

Re: [Patch] Mouse speed in the emulator is too high #150

Yeah wx-sdl-mouse is a better place, I didn't really test it in MS-DOS, not even in graphics modes, I used Windows 95 to try to match the movement of the emulated mouse and that of the physical machine.

[Patch] Mouse speed in the emulator is too high #150

A patch for the github issue #150 "Mouse speed in the emulator is too high" This is still a simple and incomplete solution but it may help some users. My intention is to try to set the mouse cursor speed according to the screen output scaling and maybe also for high DPI screens. Fo...

Then I don't know, I've little idea of how audio is extracted from data+audio CDs, but I remember about 15 years ago I was trying to set up an old 486 to use for old games and one game was missing a few bytes of conventional memory if it had the driver loaded from the CD drive, searching through dri...

Re: CD-DA / Redbook audio not working in DOS

I've searched through my CD games and found one with audio tracks that works on Windows and MS-DOS, on Windows 95 it had sound but on DOS it didn't, even with the DOS drivers installed. The problem was that the volume of the CD seems to be at minimum by default in the DOS drivers, I had to use the M...

From experience I know that when the PS/2 model 70 "gets angry" (bad CMOS settings or the like) it only supports floppy disks with the PC-DOS boot sector, although the XT does not have a CMOS it may expect to find a boot sector or partition table in a specific format, and maybe not all ver...

Re: Can't boot XT from Hard Drive.

Inside PCem using the DTC5150X controller BIOS commands is useless, at most it will delete the contents of the drive but nothing else, formatting the drive at low level is useless as PCem ignores those commands, if you want to split a single drive into two logical drives you must do it with FDISK. Re: Can't boot XT from Hard Drive.

I suspect some of those limits were not always real, it just had to be the largest hard drive size that existed when those operating systems versions came out, I remember MS-DOS 2.something shipped with the Sinclair PC200 did a proper install on another computer with a 40MB Conner CP3044 drive.

Multi-DOS Common Boot :?: Are you using a bootloader? because it may use 286 instructions. Otherwise everything seems correct, it works for me with the same settings and hard drive images of the same size, I "fdisked" and formatted the hard drive using an MS-DOS 6.22 boot disk and then boo...
