Re: "1000 Best Games For Windows" Locks-Up OS When Opening Launcher

Hm. I don't have that version of this shareware disc, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. But it reminds me of a problem I had with another program that doesn't appear to work on any emulated machine...

Re: Possiblity of implementing cache emulation

I don't even know how we got from "there's no improvement" to "will we ever have it" because it probably should have ended right there. Is there even anything that absolutely requires the cache in order to behave properly? I haven't heard of anything.

Re: v15 released!

Well, You can try. It's up to you. I don't know if it'll actually fix your problem, but it fixeed mine, and if it doesn't really work you can just keep using your old one. I also have no idea if this mattered, but I created a whole new pcem folder fresh from the zip to do it. I just copied over my r...

Re: v15 released!

Not a lot for the most part; the main CPU load is the CPU emulation, and that's strictly single threaded. The only reason to go past 4 cores is if you want to emulate a Voodoo 2 SLI setup, as the Voodoo emulation can use up to 3 threads per card. This disappointing but understandable since it's har...

Re: CD-ROM problem of PCem V15

Does the game expect D:\ to be your CDrom drive instead of whichever one you installed the game from? Sometimes that's an issue, though that's not a common one.

That sounds like an idea that doesn't really need to be attached to the project in order to exist.

Re: Unexplained Slowdown?

I had something like this once that only occurred during CD reads (image or real discs) and the only solution I ended up finding was creating a new machine profile from scratch and attaching my existing hard drive images so I didn't have to reinstall everything. I doubt the same would work for you b...

Re: Black Dahlia says not enough free space

Huh, I hadn't realized it was bumped, so I just responded pointlessly to what I thought might have been a new thread. Regardless, the problem in this thread remained unsolved and the one who posted the other thread is not only a different person but didn't mention having any issues at all. I still h...

Re: Black Dahlia says not enough free space

It sounds like the installer itself is checking for free space and it probably fails over 4GB

Re: v15 & new recompiler update

I feel that after a certain point you no longer need to be emulating machines, because basic virtualization will cover those bases for everything but the "it's slow" part. There shouldn't be much in the Pentium 2 age that needs an "accurate" emulator to be able to do everything it needs to do.

Re: [Solved] Cannot get Munt (MT-32 emulator) to work

I'm under the impression that the differences in how PCem and Dosbox approach emulation would make the code mostly, if not totally, worthless

Re: CD Image Format - Blindwrite

Are you sure the images are at fault? At what point does it fail? Also, I imagine PCem can support any disc drive that's recognized as such, because it seems to be able to use any host drive whether it be physical or virtual. If you have such a thing it may be worth a try. Or just get a virtual driv...

There's nothing strange about giving an estimate of a new release. What the hell is wrong with people here? Other people don't act this way about their projects.

Process for creating and adding new PCem machines?

I don't have any idea why I would, but if the mood strikes me, would there be any set of steps I need to follow to accomplish this? tools I would need, etc.

I just have a good number of pentium era and earlier machines that I'd like to pretend to still be using.

Re: Is drive sound emulation possible?

Yeah. We already have that beep sound when a machine is turning on. Floppy sounds would be a great addition. But that's part of the machine. It's not an external noise. speed-modulated hard drive whirs and writes, monitor hums (based on emulated sync) Let's be real here, i'd want these. Hell, for h...

There are definitely multiple kinds of bugs that come about from not exiting PCem entirely, but I can't remember the ones I've found.

Alright, so: As it turns out, whatever is happening with my current installation of PCem, doesn't happen if I make a new folder with a fresh copy of PCem, copying over my rom folder and HD image and reconfiguring the machine from scratch. I really don't understand what's going on here. edit: Aside f...

Re: CD access slowdown

I've never tried it off of this computer, but there's definitely something wrong because PCem never started out like this. I could try my config on a different computer and see how that works, but I can't do it at this moment. as I already said, it happens with everything. Real drives, images, it do...

CD access slowdown

I don't know when or where this happened, since I didn't really do much or change much in PCem and as far as I know this wasn't always the case, but every time PCem reads from the CD drive, whether it's a real disc, an image, or otherwise, emulation speed drops below 10% as long as it continues to b...
