Re: Museum Madness - FM Synth in DOS sound lag, despite it being solid 100%
I have just tested v17, and the MIDI stuttering issue has indeed been fixed!

Re: Museum Madness - FM Synth in DOS sound lag, despite it being solid 100%
I wonder if this is the same bug as the one I've encountered that causes MIDI files (any at all) to stutter when played through the FM synthesizer. Judging by the description of the commit, I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
That would make sense if that's the case. Also, yes, both DBOPL and NukedOPL are affected by it as far as I can tell.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
I was referring to Ensoniq, although the two options are almost identical, and I didn't test DOS games because I don't need the recompiler to run those at 100% speed. My priority here was Pentium-class Windows 9x emulation.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
Another thing I found out during my testing: at least on my end, the stuttering only affects FM synthesis ( e.g. SB16). I set the sound card to SB AudioPCI and no skipping is present.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
Sorry for the bump, as I know those tend to get annoying, but I've decided to test this again by switching the recompiler on and off. I tested it by using an SB16 and playing a MIDI file. I was surprised by the results. 386DX/40 + No recompiler = No skipping 486DX/50 + No recompiler = No skipping 48...

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
I've tried that, and it either does nothing or makes the problem worse.
This may sound a bit far-fetched, but to those who see this...what CPU are you using on your host system? I'm starting to wonder if it might be an issue with certain CPUs. I'm using an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
I don't know if this also applied to v15, but in v16, I've found that enabling EMM386 is what causes the stuttering in DOS. I tested it using QEMM instead and there was no stuttering. However, it only seems to fix the DOS stuttering. With QEMM enabled, there is still some very minor stuttering on Wi...

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
I had almost forgotten about this thread too until I saw that PCem 16 was out. Here's a demo I recorded of the issue. I don't know if the dynamic recompiler is the actual issue or if that's a coincidence, but I showed the difference in case that helps. I noticed that adjusting the buffer size change...

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
Never mind. Different programs produce different results. I'll just go back and forth between versions for different purposes.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
UPDATE: I adjusted the "video speed" setting, and that fixed the issue.

Re: PCem v15 Sound Issue
For the record, I tried enabling and disabling EMM386, enabling and disabling drivers, lowering the RAM, using a different version of DOS, using a different machine/BIOS. Nothing fixed it.

PCem v15 Sound Issue
I have been a user of PCem for a couple of years now, and I have nothing but respect for the people behind it! However, I have noticed a strange sound issue in the latest version. When playing audio on an emulated Sound Blaster, I notice a very distracting stutter or "skipping", especially...
