Packard Bell Legend 600X (PB300)
I have made another BIOS dump for a Packard Bell Legend 600X which has motherboard model PB300. If there is any interest in emulating this system, let me know. It's a 386 system from around 1991. It has the following specs: Chipset - ACC2036 Video - Onboard Oak Technologies OTI037C UM82C862F (FDC/HD...

Re: PCem Ubuntu lagging
You probably need to have an image loaded to the cdrom drive. I have found that if I don't have a disc image inserted, the speed drops significantly. It can be any cdrom disc image.

Linux XDG base directory specification
Over the years a lot of software has been migrating from dot directories in the home directory over to a unified and portable directory standard. PCem still uses ~/.pcem as the configuration directory. It would be advantageous to move to the newest XDG standard listed at https://specifications.freed...

Re: v15 compatibility & bug list (WIP)
I have been able to reliably reproduce a performance issue, might be specific to my system or possibly a Linux x86_64 issue. I have huge performance issues that can see dips as low as 4% and high as 102% CPU emulation speed, it's enough to cause audio and mouse lag bad. It is related to the CD-ROM d...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
So I have hesitated to say something because I'm not sure if it's an issue with my machine but it's a very strange behavior. I have a Windows 98SE 430VX system set up which I have been testing with mainly. I noticed I'm getting very poor performance no matter which processor I get and it lags betwee...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
Looks good Sarah! Interesting you are using inline assembly to work around a GCC issue. I will keep testing other software and hardware configurations. Thanks for putting the time into fixing these issues.

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
So I kept an older copy of the repository just before the new recompiler changes were merged in and ran Unreal and got this error: Screenshot from 2019-04-30 22-37-45.png After updating to the newest changes today, I get this on the title screen instead of the flying castle view: Screenshot from 201...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
The performance did improve a bit for me on my Ryzen 2700X. Though I tried to play Unreal on Windows 98SE and got black screen on the intro and I instantly died on new game on a black screen too. Was not able to test this before so I don't know if it's my set up or anything that has changed. I'm run...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
Sarah, I am compiling with the version of GCC from Ubuntu 18.04:
gcc version 7.3.0 (Ubuntu 7.3.0-27ubuntu1~18.04)
What weird issues are you seeing? I can try to reproduce them.

I was already testing with --enable-debug. I was hoping it would build symbols for a backtrace.

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
Thanks for the suggestion. I went back and tested the 486 configuration and it works with/without dynamic recompiler now for some reason. However I have tested most of the Pentium models and it crashes on WIndows 98SE loading. I did switch it to the Winchip 100 with dynamic recompiler, and it still ...

Re: v15 & new recompiler update
I am also getting a segmentation fault on Linux x86_64 builds. I can't get a useful backtrace, but it happens on different configurations when loading Windows 3.1 and Windows 98 so far. These were preinstalled from earlier PCem revisions. If you have any suggestions on how to get anything useful for...

Re: Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
I can confirm it works on Linux x86_64. Though the time/date does some strange things in the BIOS setup. I will hook up a hard drive image to it and install Windows on it this weekend to test further. Thanks!

Re: Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
Impressive work, Sarah. I was not expecting you to get to it this soon due to your work on the recompiler. That was a lot of effort for this machine. I will test it when I get home tonight. I also have a few other Packard Bell computers now, a 386 class and Pentium class. I have not dumped the BIOS ...

Serial device support
One of the things I would be interested in seeing included in PCem is serial ports. I would like to handle it similar to DosBox, where the options would be to connect to a serial device on the host OS, a virtual modem, or virtual null modem. The most important for me would be the direct serial optio...

GD5434 v1.23b ROM hangs on Advanced/EV BIOS
I just wanted to report another issue that has been found. On the CL GD5434 ROM v1.23b, it causes a hang condition on the Advanced/EV BIOS, but not on the 430vx Award BIOS.

ROM file case sensitivty
I was looking at the Packard Bell 570 and 520r, and found a problem with regarding to Linux (and other UNIX) systems. For example in mem.c on line 851, there is a function to open one of the rom files for read: f = romfopen("pb570/1007by0r.bio", "rb"); In this case, and probably ...

PCem title image question
I have been curious as to what application is being shown on the monitor for the website title image. It looks to be an IBM 5150 but I can't quite make out what the application on the screen might be. Just a curiosity since I have looked at it a number of times. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
Thanks for having a look. I have a datasheet for the HT216-32 but it was not hard to find. It's a VLB chip as well. I haven't heard of ACC either until I looked at the board.

Re: Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
For sure. Actually, right after that picture was taken, I checked the voltage on it and it's dead flat, and then I desoldered it. So it's good now. The power supply though is a complete mess. https://imgur.com/a/S9Eov I'm hoping the motherboard is still functional. I will rebuild the power supply an...

Re: Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
No problem. I'll clean the board tomorrow and take a picture. This site has information about that board: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/410.htm The VGA controller is an Headland HT216-32. The ROM for this is in the BIOS ROM as well. From what I can tell the IDE and FDC ports seem to be routed to...

Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme (PB410A)
I have extracted the BIOS contents of my Packard Bell Legend 760 Supreme with board model PB410A (486 SX 25 with Overdrive socket). SYS V1.01.20E, VGA V10.05.03J. I saw another Packard Bell machine added in the commit log and I was wondering if any others were wanted/needed. I would actually like to...
