Re: [Request] Nvidia Riva 128 , TNT, TNT2 ,Matrox video cards

One day? Maybe. But it would be several years out - emulating even one of these cards would be a vast amount of work, and I have no plans to work on any of them in the foreseeable future.

Re: 266MMX slower than P70

Because neither chip actually shipped? Desktop Pentium MMX peaked at 233, 266 and 300 MHz chips don't appear to have ever been sold. There is a (rare) _embedded_ PMMX 266, but that appears to be the same Tilamook core as used by the Mobile chip.

Re: Few newbie questions

Hi, new here. Thanks for adding me. I have a lot of them, please bear with me, they're pretty straightforward. I'd use a wiki, but can't find one. 1.) Do MMX Pentiums take more CPU to emulate? Yes - they're slightly faster than non-MMX Pentiums of the same clock speed, so they will take more host C...

Sorry, but could you host it somewhere else? I hope I don't have to explain why I'd prefer not to have links to that site.

Re: FPU 80-bit accuracy

Only on x86 - non-x86 platforms have to use softfloat. Since PCem also runs on ARM (as of a couple of days ago), portability isn't an academic question anymore and an x86-only solution isn't viable.

Re: [Patch] VHD support

(Hopefully) set the HDD type when the MFM controller is selected, and the user loads a VHD with one of the supported geometries. (Does this actually do anything elsewhere in PCem?) It's mainly a hint to the user when setting up machines. Some of the early MFM controllers only support a few hard dri...

Committed at rev 1186. I moved it from the global config file to the per-machine config, as that seemed the more logical place to me.

Yes, you need to run setup on the AT diagnostics disc and configure the hard drive there.

Re: VHD support

I _think_ that you need to modify hd_file() - if the image is a VHD, then skip the call to check_hd_type() and HdSizeDlg, and instead load the CHS data from the VHD footer.

Re: VHD support

Sorry, there's always a huge number of other things that need doing, so this request keeps slipping. Does anyone else fancy implementing it? It shouldn't need any real knowledge of the emulator code - all the hard disc image code is abstracted into hdd_file.c so shouldn't need to touch much other co...

Re: Are ISO+OGG (or similar) CD-ROM images supported?

Possible? Yes. Desirable? I think not. I'd rather not pull in OGG/MP3/whatever decompression libraries, as well as the relevant cuesheet handling code, when you can already load the images via Daemon Tools or similar and use them through that.

OS/2 Warp 4 has the Trio64 drivers built-in, you shouldn't need to download any drivers for it.

S3 Trio64 is probably the best for OS/2 at the moment. PCem supports two of these - 'Number Nine 9FX' and 'Phoenix S3 Trio64'.

Spectre/Meltdown mainly affect code that makes huge numbers of kernel calls, mainly IO heavy stuff. PCem doesn't really fall into this category, hence it shouldn't be too badly affected.

I bought a shiny new Ryzen laptop the other day. Preliminary results - in software Quake under PCem v14, a Ryzen 5 2500U at 3.3 GHz gives about 2/3rds the performance of a Core i7-7700k at 4.4 GHz. Make of that what you will!

Fixed in rev 1175.

I'd love to know why Award thought trying to determine CPU speed with the cache off was a good idea.
