Re: Amstrad PC5286 Emulation Part II: The Return
Just a heads up that I've also dumped the bios from my new (old) Amstrad PC486SLC33. Available on my "Banjo's Mods and Retro Gaming" blog (no links here, as bios links aren't allowed). I can't be sure they work properly until someone takes a look and tries to make a PCem patch with them, t...

Re: Emulating an Amstrad PC5286
No worries, I suspected they were forbidden on the public forum here just to keep Sarah and co. safe. Regardless, the BIOS for this machine (and in a couple of days, the PC7486SLC-33 and PC9486 too!) is now "out there" so hopefully Sarah or someone else can look at this. :) I just wish I h...

Re: Amstrad PC5286 Emulation Part II: The Return
Certainly in the past Amstrad have been happy to grant permission for use of their ROMs in emulators, but these days I think the copyrights are owned by Sky, who may not be so obliging. If Sky want to "make" me buy real Amstrad machines from them rather than emulate, I'd be happy to oblig...

Re: Emulating an Amstrad PC5286
The BIOS for this machine is finally dumped and available on "Banjo's Mods & Retro Gaming". I can't link here due to copyright concerns, sadly. Still, I hope this is helpful to Sarah Walker, John Elliot or someone here to maybe start looking at getting my beloved childhood PC5286 emula...

Re: Amstrad PC5286 Emulation Part II: The Return
I was contacted by someone from MAME and gladly posted the bios roms for them, however I still see the best future chance of emulating this machine being PCem, so if the dev or anyone else wants the roms to look into creating a patch, please let me know and I can send them (or a link to them). My fi...

Amstrad PC5286 Emulation Part II: The Return
I *finally* managed to get the bios (main and VGA) from an Amstrad PC5286 which I would dearly love to be able to emulate in PCem. My question is, what is my next step? Do I talk to someone about working on a patch? I would be happy to do it myself but I have zero developing skills and there are MUC...

Re: HeadStart Explorer
So... nobody knows any more about the system and possibility of emulating it? I wasn't expecting it to be immediately emulated or anything, or even have it widely know about, as I'd never heard of the machine myself until now, but I just wondered if anyone who'd owned one had any fondness for it or ...

Re: HeadStart Explorer
Here is more info (with files that might be really helpful). Apparently, DOS and the OS were stored in the ROM.omarsis81 wrote: ↑Tue 06 Oct, 2020 12:49 pm Never heard of it either but according to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE0zuQnY-WU is boots DOS 3.1 and then it launches a GUI

HeadStart Explorer
Does anyone know much about the HeadStart Explorer, an old XT from 1989? Would it be possible to emulate one using PCEm at some stage (obviously, the right patches and roms would be needed)? Just asking because I had never heard of this PC before, but recently learned about it and am fascinated by i...

Re: Is drive sound emulation possible?
this may or may not be something i'm working on Some theories crossed my mind during sleep and thus, sound_stuff.c was born on Sep 16 2018 - reads 2 48khz 16bit mono raw PCM samples from roms/ - there's a very subtle speed variation with a sine on the whirr - the write sound is just naively read fr...

Re: Emulating an Amstrad PC5286
Thanks for the awesome info, folks! I am going to see what I can do about getting my (very) old 5286 out of storage and if by some miracle it boots, I will dump the bios. It seems saveROM is pretty straightforward... I just boot and run it with a "saverom romfile" command, right? Any way t...

Re: Is drive sound emulation possible?
I'd love all those sounds, but drive sounds are my only real "must have" for a nostalgic feel. Getting various fan whines and hums would be awesome, but probably a lot of work for something that would (at least in my case) be drowned out by my real PC's fans, keyboard clacks, etc. anyway. ...

Re: Emulating an Amstrad PC5286
Thanks for the replies (and Sarah, I'm loving PCem sooo much... thanks!). It's probably way outside of my abilities, but what would be involved in dumping the bios if I had a *real* PC5286 on hand? Zup, where would I go to talk to those folks? I've used MAME in some form for many years, but never us...

Is drive sound emulation possible?
Since I'm new to PCem, forgive me if this is commonly asked or indeed can be done and I just don't know it yet... but can we use "drive sounds" for floppy drives in PCem like you can in things like WinUAE (Amiga emulator)? Until I started messing with PCem, I didn't think I'd ever want suc...

Emulating an Amstrad PC5286
For the sake of nostalgia (it was my second computer ever), I'm really wanting to emulate an Amstrad PC5286 (1mb memory, 3.5" floppy, 40mb HDD, AdLib card). Thanks to PCem, I'm having an absolute blast emulating an old Amstrad PC1512 (my first computer!) but it seems PCem is only able to recrea...
