Re: Using vintage email clients

You can download Windows 2000 from Winworldpc.com if it helps. Do you have to have Win9x or are you challenging yourself?

My mistake. It was a Pentium II board though I am not sure what chip it used.

I know. It worked pretty well for a while but the laptop eventually started locking up after logging in.

PCem and Intel vs AMD processors

I am looking into replacing my laptop and was wondering if there was a difference in performance between Intel and AMD chips with PCem. I am partial to AMD but will consider Intel if they are faster, more reliable or perform better with PCem. What are your thoughts?

Re: Is it possible to boot a guest from usb?

I may have misremembered something. I installed Windows Xp on a 486dx2 laptop from cd, but I don't remember if I used a Windows 98 boot disk.

Is it possible to boot a guest from usb?

This is probably just my misunderstanding of the hardware. I have an atapi drive from an old laptop and am trying to use it with PCem. I use an atapi ide to usb adaptor to connect it to my laptop. I tried a pentium overdrive mmx 200 bios and looked for a boot from usb option but could not find one. ...

Re: Is it possible to remap keys in PCem?

There is no end key on the keyboard, the manufacturer left it off to save space. The right cursor key may be the end key. It's hard to read. If it is, would I need to press the fn key to activate? [edit} That's it. Nevermind, although it may be useful to remap keys.

Is it possible to remap keys in PCem?

I think I am in a unique situation. I can install PCem and run it on a notebook, but there is no end key. Thus when PCem is capturing the keyboard input, I cannot press "control end" to release and return to the host. I can borrow a suitable keyboard but it would be inconvenient to bring the noteboo...

Re: Linux Users: Any good roms out there?

Perhaps I worded my inquiry improperly, sorry. I was wondering if anyone else had any success. As to the roms affecting the sound, I found one or two threads suggesting trying different roms. I have an asus x401u laptop with an AMD® Brazos 2.0 Platform Processor. I notice the cpu execution is usuall...

Linux Users: Any good roms out there?

I've been trying to configure PCem v15 on Fedora 30 and running into some issues. I keep getting stuttering sound when installing Windows 98 SE. I have tried several roms but have not found any satisfactory. Has anyone found a rom with good sound quality? Or is this an issue unique to Linux?

Problem installing Windows 95 OSR 2.5

I am trying to install Windows 95 OSR 2.5 and running into a problem. I am using a Windows 98 boot disk because I cannot find a Windows 95 disk image. When I run setup, I get an error: Windows setup requires 7340032 bytes of disk space on your c: drive. The drive is set up with 251 M of space, and M...

Just curious. I know in Windows 98 you can set up a home network (workgroup?) and share files between computers using Windows file sharing. Does PCem support this feature?

Re: No sound in V15

Okay, I deleted the machine and recreated it. The the sound is back, but stuttering. I think when a device is removed in the client, PCem does not reinstall. I'll try changing drivers and other roms to see if it fixes the stuttering.

I did select soundblaster in the configuration and reinstalling the device, no help. This is a new install so nothing would be lost if I started from scratch. I'll keep playing with it and post results.

Configuring drives in Linux

I'm trying to configure PCem V15 on Linux and cannot find the option to select the floppy drive. I've played with the Windows version and the option to select the drive is in the title bar, but not in the Linux version. How do you set up the drives for Linux?

I installed PCem version 15 onFedora 29 with a couple of problems but managed to get it somewhat working. I downloaded the generic (genxt) rom form the download page and copied it to the /roms/genxt folder. When I run PCem, I get a "no roms present" error. I found this thread: http://pcem-emulator.c...

I used package manager to install SDL also. Well, I removed SDL2, ran updates rebooted and reinstalled. Make and make install worked but when I run PCem, I get a "no roms found" error. I downloaded the genxt.zip file, unpacked it and copied the contents to the genxt folder under the roms folder, but...
