Re: Japanese "Mouse" brand laptop Fn + Right = End == no focus control in PCEM Linux
From my experience PCEm v17 linux does not support ctrl+end or emulating the third mouse button. Maybe later builds fixed that.

A couple of questions about the emulated 3dfx performance
Recently, while playing around with a machine that has an emulated voodoo1, I found out that, at least in the recompiler mode it runs at unlimited speed. However, when switched to the interpreter mode, it runs at about as fast as a voodoo1 should, and peak fillrate is also a bit more stable. So, the...

Re: Installing PCem on Steam Deck
I don't know the specifics of Steam Deck, but PCEm runs fine under proton. That's what I do on my LInux Mint since the compiled version (which did compile in my case) lacked the middle mouse button (semi-intentionally) and crashed with a segfault every time I tried run a 3dfx game. So, if you can pu...

Re: PCem v18 News (Was v17 Notice)
I really hope the 13th gen Intel laptop CPUs can do the job. Unreal Tournament (1999) is always fun to play, but it would be nice to get it running at 100% in PCem. VMWare runs the game fine, but PCem is so cool. Just curious why would one want to use PCem for this game, aside cool ? It does run na...

Re: windows 98 monitor resoulution and frequency problem
Well, I had my desktop at 1024x768 on a 15" monitor in 1998. So, I wouldn't say it's useless. But yes, appropriate monitor drivers may need to be selected.

Re: Ryzen 7 5800X3D on sale. How likely does it do for PCEM?
Host system GPU has no impact on emulated CPU performance. As for 5800X3D: it's not the CPU to go with if PCem matters to you, unless you are okay with Pentium MMX or maybe entry level Pentium II processors. Gaming-wise, I'd say probably more like mid-range Pentium IIs with rare exceptions. Based o...

Re: Audio Glitches and Awkward Video Speed
On a desktop system, based on my Ryzen 2600x experience (and it has a slightly lower single thread rating), I'd say Pentium 233MMX should be fairly stable. On a laptop, though, it might not be quite as stable under load.

Re: How fast of a PCem CPU?
PII 450 is not even reliably achievable on fast desktop cpus. If you are talking about Apple M1s (not even sure if there is a compiled version of pcem for those, though), probably close but not quite there yet, based on benchmark score results.

Re: Host machine survey
That's strange. It's a pretty beefy cpu that, judging by performance comparisons, should be able to at least do 233MMX. Maybe even a P2 233. You might be having some software issues.

Re: How fast of a PCem CPU?
From AMD side, on a Ryzen 2600x the main CPU I could run completely reliably was Pentium 233MMX. As of V17, I could, however, run P2 233 with occasional hiccups in most gaming scenarios (excluding Deus Ex, among the games I tested) with a Voodoo 1, if I reduced the rendering threads to 1 (which prob...

Re: Daikatana & Voodoo1
So, it didn't install anything special, then. Which does make the original pondering of why there are no remnants of such questions from back then. One place I neglected to look in (this being 2021, I guess) is the readme, and, apparently, they do tell you to replace the driver in the config file in...

Re: Daikatana & Voodoo1
Thanks for the info, that worked. I wonder why I couldn't find any period info on that, I'm pretty sure a lot of people still had at least Voodoo2-s in 2000. Perhaps GLSetup installed proper drivers that are more difficult to obtain right now, so, people didn't experience such problems (while changi...

Daikatana & Voodoo1
Recently decided to test Daikatana on my emulated late 90s machine and found out that it runs at about 1fps, including the menus, when using Voodoo1, regardless of the amount of VRAM. This made me curious, and I tried different combinations of drivers and versions: the vanilla, 1.2, 1.3 versions of ...

Re: Host machine survey
Hm, interesting. That description is almost matches what I get with my 2600X (although I use Voodoo1 - but it shouldn't be a big deal since it's processed in a separate thread). Guess it doesn't quite benefit from that massive single threaded performance improvement of the 3rd gen with the way PCem ...

Re: AMD FX-9590 and PCem
I had a 8320e CPU until recently, overclocked to 4.2 GHz. My maximum stable emulated CPU was somewhere around Mobile Pentium MMX 125. In v14 certain 3d games could go as high as 166 in 3d mode only (with sound stutter in the menus), but that was certainly not guaranteed. With the new recompiler in V...
