Re: 3DFX compatibility list

Yes. PCem doesn't frameskip. That triple core Athlon II won't give you much V2 SLI action. I'd expect it to only ever do well with Pentium 75. To get V2 SLI going great you would need a relatively recent Intel Core i5-i7 @4GHz+.

Re: 3DFX compatibility list

Unreal runs fine (and better starting from version 218). It's your host computer that's slow and can't handle all the frames at once. Adding (actual) Pentium II emulation won't fix this for you. Perhaps there's also a generational issue with regards to performance acceptance as well, as getting 25fp...

Re: [Patch] 3dfx rendering accuracy

I assumed the 3dfx V2 driver already dioes validating as i've managed to make the card detection fail while trial-and-erroring very slightly different dither tables. I don't have doubt for PCem's current 2x2 table. I would guess you are missing the conversion to RGB565 that is done after the ditheri...

Re: CD rom images will not load and freeze the GUI

I'd assume this is the WX mouse locking problem with the window focus, reproducible by doing this:

- open a CD-rom or shader manager window
- Tab to another window
- Close another window
- Witness your mouse get stuck in the center of the PCem window

Re: [Patch] 3dfx rendering accuracy

Here's a new patch: - Heavily refactored: table cut in half, no extra alpha blend edit - Now performs dither subtraction on destination before the blending function - More consistent naming (it's called dithersub from here on out) - An attempt to be consistent with the PCem code style (should have n...

Re: 3DFX compatibility list

Sam running slow on Pentium MMX is NOT a bug! There are much faster CPUs PCem doesn't emulate that Sam would also run slowly on! In addition, PCem doesn't skip frames.

Re: Having trouble installing Windows 98 SE

Sounds like 430VX - Try going into the BIOS and enable "reset configuration data" in the PNP/PCI config screen. Sometimes that'll get around a freeze on post. It's also important to have absolute paths to your hard drive images and CD-ROM image. and finally, not all 98SE CDs are bootable - only the ...

Re: 3DFX compatibility list

The OP never gets edited and i've already reported Serious Sam a few times earlier with bug reports as it was intended to work on the Voodoo2. Sam's a CPU hog designed for the 7th gen; a Geforce2 won't help this, not even a Voodoo5 6000 will help this. Banshee would be the next in line. I'd also pro...

A lot of the special OEM machines PCem emulates also emulates their built-in video chipsets that sometimes doesn't have separate selectable emulation or have quirks/features of their own.

Re: Do you have any luck with FreeDos 1.4 installation?

Replacing the udvd driver with oakcdrom.sys (yes it's non-Free) on the floppy media seemed to let FreeDOS 1.2 install. Haven't dug around for any Free CD drivers that do work yet. FreeDOS 1.2 seems to hang on 8088s too which defeats the idea of FreeDOS with a Free BIOS (Xi8088) with XTIDE on CGA :( ...

Upgrade. V14 recently came out and you'll likely have more support for that than a 6 month old build.

I'm still working a bit on this but decided to put it out early as I really need a break from this (4 trial and errory days so far). I'd prefer technical feedback on this. It's not ready for the tree in its current state (still have comments and the tabs/spacing isn't consistent as I code in a notep...

Re: 3DFX emulation

Here's a naive attempt at recreating the double-sized dither, which apparently only should apply to the 4x4 dithered triangles when they are blending (2x2 dithering, mostly seen under 3dfx's Direct3D HAL, and UnrealEngine should not be affected by this patch at all). It's a slow implementation for t...

A Phenom II 3GHz probably can only handle a P90 at best at this time (v14). I don't know whether the future recompiler rewrite will benefit it or not.

Re: Are ISO+OGG (or similar) CD-ROM images supported?

Still not a 100% method but good enough. (And the rips with different hashes had no audible differences anyway) Trial and error's always a huge part of the CD ripping process. Sometimes you'll desire some of these error corrections.... I've a particular older game (1993 Win3.1 CD game) that refused...

Re: Are ISO+OGG (or similar) CD-ROM images supported?

It is a very bad idea to preserve games with lossy audio tracks Tell that to GOG. About all of their CD image games are an obfuscated bin/cue with compressed audio tracks (and sadly some of them wipe the data track clean) I did once try to make myself ogg images (for similar massive space saving re...

It's totally possible to have it work within pure DOS with the Creative drivers. Some drivers/installers don't modify the autoexec.bat appropriately, but it's doable. Just call \progra~1\creative\audio\dosdrv\sbinit.com.

It's already there.

Voodoo2 8mb = 4mb framebuffer, 2mb texture memory * 2 texture mapping units
Voodoo2 12mb = 4mb framebuffer, 4mb texture memory * 2 texture mapping units

(In case you're wondering, Voodoo2s with a 2mb framebuffer live in some arcade machines.)

More joysticks in general would be interesting, though only a few resemble the common DS3/X360 pad. Closest I can think that does in the emulated period is the SV262 and that's not a sidewinder so it's O/T :(.
