Re: Mirror HDD directly to PCem with USB Image Tool

I'm curious Ravensclaw, what are your real DOS machines? I'm hoping you meant actual old hardware is all. The USB reference however is giving me pause but there is a lot of tech out there that I've never seen or heard of before. I'm really regretting tossing out my old hardware.

Re: why ryzen5 1200 simulate Win98 sound suttering?

Yep. An R3 1200 is going to have issues keeping the sound smooth on win98SE. My R7 2700X was mostly smooth but the I5-2500k was stuttering noticeably. Just upgraded a couple days ago to an I5-13600KF relegating the R7 to guest computer status and retiring the 2500k. The new I5 is performing solid on...

Re: Networking on V17

We were doing well using PCAP for networking and gaming. We were only using it to play Cossacks Art of War and it worked well. Since then I've upgraded my computer but kept the same drives and OS on them. Just put 'em in and it worked. Unfortunately none of my PCem VM's can obtain an IP address. Som...

Re: PCem Output to CRT

I think custom resolutions was meant for within PCem, not the host machine. Forgive me if I misunderstood the nvidia control panel usage comment though. A couple items I found that may not be helpful but can't hurt. Going with the soundblaster 16 is pretty solid. ATI mach 64 (forget the specific nam...

Re: why ryzen5 1200 simulate Win98 sound suttering?

PCem does require a good single core output as was mentioned. My R7 2700X sound stutters when booting win98SE if I'm going 200MHz or more on the Pentium emulation. I was trying to find a Ryzen 5 1200 to compare and can only find Ryzen 3 1200s. My cpu is not far ahead on single core, maybe 20% or so,...

Email yourself the text?
Better yet (JK) post the text as a msg on this forum and then read it via the PCem VM. :)

That arrow key is something I need to remember.

1:1 size is something I'll try.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Re: If you have problems with the VM window title bar being off the screen

I tried the shift right click but you can't move the window unless you click on the window title bar. This is with Win10. My window is set to resizable. Also something odd happens occasionally, when I start my win95 machine it opens with a very small window. About 1/6th of the title bar is all I see...

If you have problems with the VM window title bar being off the screen

Sometimes when I go from full screen and back the window moves up slightly and it's not possible to shutdown the VM (EM?) using the normal title bar options. Subsequent VM sessions will result in the same problem. I found that editing the values for window_X and window_Y in the pcem.cfg file will co...

Re: Drives losing .img extension and disappearing from normal location

Thanks. It's still happening on my 2 Win10 machines but hasn't yet on my Win11 laptop. It just happened on both computers as I tested a lan game. It's a minor inconvenience but could be annoying to someone that doesn't realize the file still exists (and I have no idea how it gets there) in the PCem ...

Re: Drives losing .img extension and disappearing from normal location

I'm running the Socket 7 Shuttle Hot with an MMX166 -233 depending on which host computer I"m using. When I create a drive I only input the desired size and let it do the rest. Right now my PCemV17Win directory has 5 files with the same name and size as the VM drives. If I add the .img extensio...

Drives losing .img extension and disappearing from normal location

Occasionally one of my drives will no longer be in their normal location. I will find them in the PCemV17Win directory without any extensions. Copying them to where they are normally stored and adding the .img to the name fixes the problem. The first suspicion was that the VM was shutdown with the O...

Re: PCem IP address when running game host on lan

No. I think you nailed it. At first I thought it used the host computer IP as I was unaware that one NIC could have two IP addresses. I did notice that both the VM's had the same address (PCAP) but shrugged it off. I did a fair amount of research today while babysitting my grandchild and have came u...

PCem IP address when running game host on lan

I've 2 computers both running PCem Win98SE machines. In SLiRP they can both access the internet and they are both on the same network segment and on ethernet. I set one machine up to host a Cossacks game and the other machine to connect as guest (client?). On Direct IP setting the guest machine does...

XP Pro SP1A does not see Novell NE2000 SOLVED

I've set up Win98SE and have networking working using the NE2000 and SLiRP but can't seem to find a way to have XP Pro SP1A find that card. Tried add from a list and all it lists are Microsoft loopback and some other option that eludes me atm. Beat my head against the wall with the Realtek card. It ...

Re: Can PCem Interface to Hardware?

I'm not an expert but from what I've encountered, it can't directly output to hardware. Everything goes through the host machine. However there may be a passthrough that is hidden somewhere in the settings.
