Re: [patch] Systems from the first Olivetti PCS series

If I get some time next afternoon I want to test Windows 95 with PCS 386 SX, in my real computer it works, I don't know if having a 387 installed makes any difference for W95, on the worst case it will be even slower...

Re: [patch] Partial emulation of the systems from the first Olivetti PCS series

NOTE: PCS 286 original speed is 12MHz but I changed it to speed up Windows 3.0 setup and then I forget to revert it...

Finally the non working PCS 86, CPU should be (NEC V30) but BIOS is able to display also (i8086) and original speed is 10MHz

[patch] Systems from the first Olivetti PCS series

Hi there, The title of the post is self explanatory, there's also a file named "oli_pcs_readme.txt" with more information, both on diff file and RAR archive. 15/10/2017 EDIT: I changed the post title from "Partial emulation of the Systems from the first Olivetti PCS series" to "Systems from the firs...

Re: PCem MSYS2 build guide (with wxWidgets)

Hi, Many thanks to everybody for this work, on past night I got some headache trying to bring wxWidgets to my old (and perhaps corrupt) Msys installation. - Extracting the "include" and "lib" folders to every place where there were already include and lib folders (I never did figure out which one ac...

Re: 8086 emulation

I edited my previous post to replace "game (Y)" by "game or program (Y)" because I was really thinking on any software... Therefore EMS needs to be still considered and EMS provided by chipsets or 386+ CPU doesn't help if you want to emulate systems without those chipsets or CPU. In this case IBM PS...

Re: 8086 emulation

I've made some tests with Generic XT clone and IBM XT (both have 8088 CPU) with VGA video adapter and MS-DOS 6.22. Norton Commander -> OK version 4 and therefore all versions up to 4 should work also, version 5 already requires a 286 or higher. Lemmings 1 -> OK, of course at 4.77 MHz takes more time...

Re: 8086 emulation

Hi, Can't use HIMEM.SYS with a 8086/88 because for HIMEM.SYS 80x86 means 80286, 80386 and so on. 8086/8088 can only access 1MB or memory, to use HIMEM.SYS you need at least a 286 with enough memory, on some chipsets even with only 1 MB you'll get a small amount of extended memory, because some memor...

Re: Olivetti GO481 video card

Yes, the definitive name "Olivetti GO481 (Paradise PVGA1A)" is clear enough and on the style of the other cards, after all it's true that the potential users should already know how the real card is, which drivers may need for each OS etc.

Re: Olivetti GO481 video card

The amount of memory is surely 256K B , not 256K b (32KB), right? I know it's a minor detail, but I can see some potential for user confusion here, so it should probably be corrected. And for that matter, isn't it a bit inconsistent to be listing the memory amount right in the displayed name of the...

Olivetti GO481 video card

This is a VGA compatible video card used on many Olivetti/AT&T computers. It has a Paradidse PVGA1A chip and 256KB of memory. As far as I know PVGA1A was the first consumer oriented chip having higher modes than standard VGA, like 256 colors at 640x400 and 16 colors at 800x600 on all cards and 256 c...

Option to change video card for systems with integrated/fixed graphics

I don't like to have a system stuck to a video card when on the real life it can be upgraded while others like original PC can use any card available and this is not realistic, a 8088/4.77MHz IBM PC with a Diamond Stealth 3D  :?: I'm thinking on using a single global variable (because it can'...

Re: Feature Request: Missing ROMs warning instead of hiding configs

OK, I must admit that sometimes I have similar problems so I've made a set of dummy roms of different sizes, both single file and interleaved. Are based on the Generic XT rom so there are not copyright worries. It's the same Generic XT rom file expanded to those other sizes adding all the needed pad...

Why not log mising roms?

Well, I thought that it was not implemented due to the required time for doing something not being a part of emulation. I was testing a basic implementation of 3 new machines and since I've already added such code to them I've decided to do the same with all other to keep the code as most uniform as...

Re: PCem crashes or closes * without any warning * if Direct3D/DirectDraw HW acceleration is disabled

Yes, it works now with DirectDraw hardware acceleration disabled with "dxcpl.exe" from the latest DX SDK. It's fine even in Windows XP running in VirtualBox so I should say TEST PASSED (For those not already aware "dxcpl.exe" from DX SDK is a lot more customizable than default "%WINDIR%\System32\DXC...

PCem crashes or closes * without any warning * if Direct3D/DirectDraw HW acceleration is disabled

If for any reason* you have HW acceleration disabled for D3D and/or DD PCem main window won't load. (At least on my computer ) Perhaps nobody else out there has HW acceleration disabled but may prevent crashing due to other reasons... Prevention is always better. With DirectDraw output enabled...

Re: DELL System 200 (and others) HIMEM.SYS (MS-DOS 5.0+) GATE A20 ERROR

Well, apart from these few operating systems seems that there was no much software designed to run in 286 protected mode Lotus 1-2-3 v3.1 for DOS works fine also, I do think it runs in protected mode because it does not requires HIMEM.SYS to access the extended memory and does not run at all on 8086...

DELL System 200 (and others) HIMEM.SYS (MS-DOS 5.0+) GATE A20 ERROR

With MS-DOS versions 5.x and 6.x HIMEM.SYS fails to handle the gate A20 on DELL System 200, ending up without XMS enabled so DOS will have access to only 640Kb of conventional memory which after loading DOS, drivers, TSR's and so on you may end without enough memory to run most programs. This happen...
