Re: AudioPCI impressions

Crackle's gone but there's some sound distortion. It's present on both non-WDM and WDM drivers and lowering the wave sound volume doesn't seem to fix it. Some games sound really bad with it, i.e. NFS2 whenever a tunnel's entered. though this did make me recall my early AWE64 distortion issues back i...

You could probably add a CD MSFS5.1 in there.

Games aren't shell apps. They expect to be run from their working directory.

Plantronics ColorPlus (possibly others) affected by CGA colors setting

As Plantronics isn't configurable (yet) the way to turn off the CGA color settings (mono etc) isn't available. This can happen from loading a CGA machine in another config that has a mono colors setting and then loading a config with Plantronics ColorPlus configured.

I think I got this same crash when installing M.A.X. so this pretty much means most Interplay 1996-97 DOS releases.

EDIT: odd, can't reproduce it now.

Custom resolution isn't set on the next time PCem is started

I've had a custom 1280x960 window resolution set on one config and it didn't always start up at that size despite it being already checked and set. No machine provided as this is a purely Wx GUI-related bug. (there's also a bug where CGA and EGA will force a window resize during resize/custom mode e...

Re: OpenGL 3.0

Either are fine, unless your video chipset driver decides otherwise. YMMV. The OpenGL 3.0 backend in PCem has a shader system in addition in which it can work with GLSL shaders written for retroarch. This isn't available in the D3D backend (though it could be......if there was some niche interest in...

Re: 3DFX emulation

In early Voodoo2 testing I tried Unreal Tournament 2004 out of morbid curiosity. It works as expected (A Voodoo3 could run this a little better but that will still have major errors - this is a DX8.1 game that wants vertex shaders and as much multitexture combine as possible, and is beyond fixing an...

Re: [BUG] VGAPaint 386 doesn't like VESA modes and crashes!

I get the hang on the same mode on all the Cirruses at least, on the Trio64 (which DOSBox's default is based on) and on interpreter so it doesn't seem to be Trident-specific.

486 DX2/DX4 now misreport speeds in SiS496

Both AMD and Intel 486 DX2/4 processors misreport their MHz on bootup. iDX4/100 is now 50mhz, etc. Didn't try Cyrix.

Don't know which commit did this. AMI486 seems fine from what I can tell.

Re: 3DFX emulation

As much as i'd hate to bump old threads, i've recently failed an attempt to up the taps of the bilinear filter to 128 hoping for just enough precision to be appropriate for the color depth and the lightmap blending (which is currently reminiscent of the 4-bit precision of a PowerVR PCX2's alpha text...

Re: [REQUEST] CD-ROM speed

The appropriate whirring noises would also have to be emulated. Don't know if there can be an organized effort to sample the hardware we have for sound, like getting a drive to record a cd/diskette being copied and going through the insert/eject cycle etc.

A slower CD-ROM speed would probably benefit......certain games' installers that give out game lore by sound as the installer goes. Activision titles come to mind (Interstate '76, Battlezone, etc) some selectable speeds like 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x and MAX It doesn't have to stop at 16x. We could go all...

Win3.x splash image appears too fast?

I recall around 93-94 this would smoothly draw from top down as the OS loads and would take a few seconds on a slow 486SX-33, in PCem it appears instantly even on 386SX VGA systems.

Re: Paradise Bahamasw 64 (S3 Vision864)

What model are you trying to use? This should appear when you're using anything below SiS 496 and it can appear on some machines if you have both a SBPCI and an ethernet card going. It got me when I tried to use Trio64 with the WinBIOS 486 (ISA/VLB only) since that's what I use on my real board (tho...

I don't think it does. You're probably creating an image over some fragments. For me, it didn't take 2 minutes to make a 40gb today. what takes longer though is moving all those smaller images into the bigger ones since there's no real easy img-based tools to do so and WinImage drag-and-drop isn't r...

It could also help if you tried different software to dump your image to see if that's a factor. I've had some better results on 91-95 software dumped through CloneDVD (with .cue creation enabled as well).

I noticed the dynarec checkbox was greyed out. Changed cpu type, and saw now I could check/uncheck it. I unchecked it. Later, when I switched back to the previous cpu, the dynarec checkbox became greyed out again - while still being unchecked. Expect behavior? Probably not. This is expected behavio...

A higher cylinder limit could help. There are times I wish I had a bit more space so I wouldn't have to make 15 8gb images to test across many configurations. Most of the games dumped in them are from hard drive migrations and often have redundancy

MegaPC Tseng slowness

Noticed the last commit and wanted to try that out immediately. When ET4000AX is used in a MegaPC it'll be slow in many games (i.e. Major Stryker). Doesn't affect AMI386 in the same way. Built-in video (VGA) is fine. Real behavior? DISCLAIMER: I'm only using the MegaPC for the working Phoenix 386SX ...

If there is one it should be owned by Sarah. I'm not a fan of fan-owned emulation discords for the general grief they bring and would liekly serve as a huge distraction towards time spent working on the emulator.

Re: I know it's technically too late to add new machines

Having Pentium II emulation would mean a recompiler rewrite first as the P6 architecture is wildly different on how it treats instructions and cache. You can't just take Pentium and clock it up and change a few CPUIDs around to emulate a Pentium II.

WinME always ate the autoexec.bat in a desperate attempt to remove all real-mode drivers and enforce WDM. This also affects SB16 emulation TSRs on the SB Live for example
