Re: CD-ROM drive only partially works - unsure if Win98 or PCem bug

Re: CD-ROM drive only partially works - unsure if Win98 or PCem bug
 To remove all devices from device manager at once and without having to reboot a bunch of times use the registry editor to go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ And delete the "enum" subkey, then if you reopen the device manager it will be empty, and after rebooting the machine (using the star...

Re: CD-ROM drive only partially works - unsure if Win98 or PCem bug
Windows 95 sometimes gets stuck in MS-DOS Compatibility mode even after all the problems are fixed, to get rid of it open the registry editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS An then in the right pane right click on the "NoIDE&...

[Suggestion] A dedicated file extension for PCem configuration files
I would find it handy to have a dedicated file extension for PCem configuration files, so that one can run/configure a machine directly by double clicking/right clicking/etc on the configuration file, without having to use the command line. And to keep things simple I think the .pcem file extension ...

That error CDR101 can happen (at least) with the Adaptec SCSI CD-ROM driver ASPICD.SYS MSCDEX recognizes the drive and assigns it a drive letter, but cannot read anything from it and displays the message CDR101: Not ready reading drive D ("D" or whatever drive letter corresponds to the CD-...

Yeah but some have serious graphics issues (Digger by Windmill Software) and others run too fast (Eternam by Infogrames) or have the Borland (Turbo) Pascal runtime error 200 on faster CPUs (Jazz Jackrabbit) although for this last bug there is a patch but I remember that cannot be applied to all the ...

It won't run on Windows 98 because it was coded for newer operating systems (XP and later) with more functions in the kernel, user interface and so on.

Re: PCEM stopped working correctly
Try going to the nvr subfolder in the PCem folder and deleting the nvr file with a name resembling your configuration name and emulated machine name, that file stores the motherboard configurations and can get corrupted. For example if your configuration name is "MS-DOS 6.22" and the machi...

[SOLVED] wxWidgets, ahem, PCem main icon misplaced
Yesterday I built pcem from the latest source code but today I was more awake and I realized that the main icon (the wxWidgets default icon) was missing, it has gone along with all other resources to libpcem.dll and now Windows has to show a generic executable icon in explorer, taskbar, shortcuts, e...

That can happen if you run cmake from MSYS2 MSYS, if this was your case you have to switch to MSYS2 MinGW 32 or MSYS2 MinGW 64 to compile PCem, in some of the earlier guides it was specified but I think the last guide is missing that step MSYS2: ________msys.png MSYS2 MINGW64: ________mingw64.png (E...

If I remember correctly the emulated FPU is only accurate enough to make 3D games look good, so the tests included in some BIOS or diagnostic programs will show errors, spreadsheets will have errors and so on.

Re: PCem cassette support and register monitor
The PC-DOS 1.x images have a small problem on the boot sector, they say "7-May-81" but "May-81" starts at offset 0x0B in place of the BIOS Parameter Block used by 2.x and further PC-DOS versions. This causes incompatibility with Winimage and also with any Windows version and I th...

Re: IBM PS/1 Emulation Issues
Apparently genuine IBM PS/1 drives used one pin of the connector to signal if the drive was low or high density, maybe there was other pin used to signal 3.5" or 5.25"
In PCem 720KB drives are also identified as 1.44MB so I think those configuration pins are not (yet) emulated by PCem.

I'm not sure but mouse speed is somewhat related to screen resolution, if your display is UHD (2K or 4K or the like) you can try switching to a lower screen resolution, like full HD (1920x1080)

Re: Extracting files from PCem OS to my PC.
You can do the same with Winimage if you want to extract or add files, but be sure to exit from PCem before (closing main PCem window, not just closing that emulated machine) because it keeps the image file opened (bug???) and Winimage can't open shared files. I think Sarah fixed that bug for the v...

Re: Extracting files from PCem OS to my PC.
You can do the same with Winimage if you want to extract or add files, I mean there's no need to create more images, you can open the same image being used by PCem with Winimage and drag and drop files and folders fom/to any folder on your physical computer Edit: this only applies to early PCem rele...
