Re: P300MMX?

You might want to fix your quotes. :) I think +300MHz and good overclocking improvements are entirely reasonable for the Ryzen refresh, agreed. Motherboard updates (software and hardware) should also help current Ryzen hit its peak; RAM support is spotty. Windows 10 also needs updated multi-threadin...

Edit : And then I posted my entire reply, re-read your post, and realized you said "Ryzen refresh ". My, that's some tasty raw egg on my face. :) Keeping post for posterity and info. :) I am hoping that the first Ryzen refresh will give me around that 6700's performance in this emulator I...

There's a good video by Gamers Nexus explaining differences in reviews. Or at least, it seems like a good one to me - I'm not a reviewer, and I don't have any inside information. AMD Ryzen was overhyped by a lot of people, IMO. What we got with the R7's seems reasonable. Very reasonable, in fact; 8...

I haven't gone off and done any real research, but I haven't run into any common compression format that 7-zip won't open, so it's pretty much my go-to for that.

For Linux, it's command-line only, though.

Re: Dynamic recompiler

CPU emulation takes ~90% of the main thread. Voodoo threads will run up to 100% utilisation each. Potentially increasing the number of Voodoo threads would improve peak Voodoo performance, but given that the current CPU emulation can't drive the existing Voodoo emulation at 100% it would be somewha...

Re: Dynamic recompiler

As for AMD core counts, a few recent AMD Ryzen leaks strongly imply that the consumer CPUs may actually have twice as many cores (4 core i3-equivalents, 8-core i5 equivalents, 8-core 16-thread i7-equivalents). So I could be wrong there. But, like any pre-release, pre-actual-product-review pie-in-th...

Dreamer , you are right, and it will be massive task to rewrite all components, but it will take much less if only one PC will be changed , and only one Dispaly, sound adapter etc. not the whole PCem but only one complete PC with specific boards. still a lot of work. without voodoo emulation it cou...

Re: Unknown register write in CMDFIFO mode 00003d18 00000280 error when trying to run a game

The Voodoo2 DirectX 7 Beta driver obviously requires a DirectX version of at least 7.0. DirectX 6 isn't going to cut it. i had already installed dx 7.but it was on top of dx 4 and 6. i uninstalled them and reinstalled just 7 and it now works Old un/installers could be pretty bad. In the *Win95 days...

Tried like, 6. Used physical disc and ISO. Tried different ISOs. No dice anywhere. Is there something i'm missing or something? The "stupid questions" first: Is your capslock on? Second: Can you type the key correctly in a text document? (is your keyboard working?) Both answers are probab...

Re: PCem and a new PC

If possible may I ask what do you think of the AMD cpus FX-8350 or 8370 clocked at 4Ghz (turbo 4.2 and 4.3 Ghz respectively)? I know the core i7 is better, and even some core i5s run at 4Ghz, but I am just curious how these higher end AMD processors would perform against the benchmark cpus for PCem...

Re: [Request] SCP (Supercard Pro) Support

I'm pretty sure flyers80 was talking about Supercard Pro format support on the host side, not the guest side. It's a floppy image format that samples disks at the flux level, similar to Kryoflux. I'm not sure exactly what's involved in adding support for those formats, but it kinda seems like way m...

Re: PCem and a new PC

I don't think Zen processors would make a huge difference with PCem, as those processors will have 8 cores / 16 threads but at relatively low clock, and as SarahWalker said, PCem needs a good single thread performance processor First, I'm going to apologize. This is going to be ranty; it's not aime...

Looks like a USB device. All that would be needed is a sufficient level of USB passthrough and the software for it.

I didn't write anywhere that Winuae's panel is nice. In fact, it's a rather incomprehensible mess. I also didn't mention mame as a reply to anyone, just as a mean of comparison to Pcem. My message was simply "PCem is architecturally awesome, deserves more press". That's all. (ps.: for the...

But all of those have one difference to 90s PC: They don't have a million and a half hardware combos, made by dozens of different companies, almost all of which had dubious adherence to spec. Hope not to go too off-topic: well, actually if you have a look at the most recent Winuae, you'll see that ...

Just confirming that this is a regression compared to PCem v10.1 on the same system, where A20 seems to be handled correctly. EDIT: Okay, this is getting weird. I was finally able to get HIMEM.sys working on PCem v11, but only on a certain BIOS in a certain very specific setup. Specifically, if I u...

Re: Is PCEm the only emulator of its kind?

DOSBox is easier to get into. WinUAE and Amiga Forever will get you up and running with Commodore nostalgia in less than a day, depending on how quick your download purchase goes. PCSXII and your LAN connection to your PS2 will probably have you running same-day as well. But all of those have one di...
