Re: A few disk bugs?

I don't have any issues with my 1.2mb floppy dumps. Just make sure you have the correct floppy drive configured for the desired disk type in both machine and BIOS.

Re: Execution rate at DOS prompt, menus, etc.

So far the only unusual recompiler choking i've seen on v13.1 is with Ms. PacPC (JROK's excellent DOS Ms. Pacman recreation). Oddly PacPC is not affected.

Re: [REQ] EAX emulation?

The ES1371 card emulation covers this, sort of - many drivers for the SB PCI 128 have EAX support (in addition to some drivers supporting A3D). Haven't tried it with a discrete 4+ speaker setup though (haven't tried it on a real SBPCI either to be fair), but the binaural stuff works on A3D and the E...

Re: v13 released!

The only other "feasibly possible" 3d card I can think of are Rendition cards, only because their papers are out there and the card works similarly to how an AudioPCI works (running off software code), it was never possible for a wrapper to happen since it was like that. What really goes a...

Which renderer are you using? If Direct3D or Glide, what driver version and DirectX are you using? If Voodoo2, Did you limit 2MB memory in Glide?

If it's I76's terrible terrain pop-in and occasional road poly Z-fighting you're referring to: that's a real thing.

Re: Status of Assembly?

It's only in the recompilers. The immediate issue is only really in that references to the recompilers are still there after disabling them, so interpreter-only builds aren't possible for the time being (but could be with a bunch more ifdefs) Also if it's the Pi you're thinking of, don't expect much...

Re: Windows 98 SE: Trying to change MIDI instrument to GS Wavetable Synth

Windows98 doesn't generally make the software synth available when there's hardware with native playback (as with the real systems with such sound cards). In the 90s it was only really common to see the GS synth on post-AC'97 laptops and other onboard audio chips and a bunch of OEM machines with che...

Re: Battle Chess Enhanced CD-ROM for DOS, version 1.00

Did you make a bin/cue of your disc? I'd imagine it'd hang trying to play an audio track that doesn't exist for each animation, and Interplay's early CD titles were a bit on the rough side of quality...

Mine's a 1.00 disc from a sound card/cdrom bundle circa '94.

Earlier Pentium timing was too fast. The P166MMX performed more like a P2 300 earlier (and it shouldn't have)

Oddly I can't seem to reproduce this on AMI486 with Cx486 on recompiler with the Tgui9440 and CDchess configured for Trident and DOS 6.22. How's your CONFIG.SYS? Since you've got DOS 6.22 you could try running MEMMAKER for luck. EDIT: couldn't reproduce it on SIS496, 16mb nor interpreter either. I a...

Re: v13 - Mouse Issues

Ensure you're still using the proper mouse device in the config, since the addition of the Mouse Systems 3-button mouse can bump this.

In addition, using Vsync with the OpenGL backends will cause mouse delays.

Please don't derail the thread about starting wikis (which I disagree about given their huge maintenance overhead) and emulators. My intent was a screenshot gallery of linked game endings after finishing a game within PCem to verify their playability in the simplest briefest way possible.

Finishable games

Simply a list thread where a game is fully finishable from start to end without major issues. It's not a compatibility list. Games without endings need not apply. Potential spoilers ahead.

I'll start:

Re: v13 released!

Maybe more as an option. Replacing working components with SDL is a huge YMMV for Windows users, and there's the potential to take advantage of OpenAL's EFX stuff to simulate a pc speaker against a metal case+positioning (As well as doing that for future sound effects of drives working)

Re: PCem 13 first impressions

V2 SLI unfortunately doesn't help Q3's texture thrashing all that much. r_picmip 1 is still advised. The next step up (Voodoo Banshee 16MB) would be far better for Q3 at r_picmip 0 Another note on the V2 SLI is that it dioesn't implement the screen filter at 1024x768 so there shouldn't be any perfor...

I've noticed and mentioned the crackling since it was committed. It's more obvious on OpenAL Soft than Creative's OpenAL driver.

There are some cases where the crackling should be real though (Epic dos games)

I don't see graphical issues here - I just see an unfortunate decision to use the Virge for a game it doesn't have the caps for. This is obviously not the emulated Voodoo cards.

Also D3 didn't have a 1997 demo. Its earliest demo is from October 98.

Of course it's a 2D effect (Direct3D supports 2D blitting on 3dfx), and on PCem's V2 that picture wouldn't even show up (I get the desktop instead, which may be a clue that it's rendering the screen but not switched to the V2) Also i've been playing through Half-Life with a PMMX233+SBPCI128+V2SLI an...
