Re: Dynarec execution rate plummeting drastically at DOS pro
That was a clean boot of DOS 6.22, on a Winchip 240 (the fastest CPU emulated when I started the recompiler, somewhat slower than the Pentium MMXes you can emulate now), on a 3.6 GHz Ivy Bridge Core i5. If your setup differs from this at all then I'd expect the performance to drop somewhat.

Correct, the effects processor is not emulated, as there is no documentation on it.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 - Using ViRGE DX in a 16-bit color mode shows the in-game menu with a white background instead of purple. Also occurs with IDT Winchip interpreter. Does not occur with Trio64 I don't think this is a PCem bug - the two cards run the game in different modes; Trio64 in 565, ViRGE in ...

Re: Dynarec execution rate plummeting drastically at DOS pro
ecksemess, could you post your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files here? There may be something there causing slowdown, most of my benchmarking was done on a clean boot. In general though, idling (on pretty much any operating system) hits all the weak points in the current recompiler and hence doesn't...

Re: r.335 - Win9X Game issues
Rev 353 should get Interstate 76 to start. I'm still investigating why rendering is broken; I think this may be an FPU rounding issue.

PCem patches (post rev-347)
As Retro Software is still down, I'll post newer patches here for now. I'm assuming everyone has rev 347, which was the last version before the repo went down. Please do NOT post to this thread, any new bugs should be raised as new threads as normal. 348 - Removed a bunch of old #defines. Cleaned up...

Attached rev 351 as a patch, which seems to fix this from my testing. Quite why IBM decided to hide a video enable bit in an index register is beyond me.

Most of those #defines are a holdover from older versions - few (if any) of them will still do anything.

Re: Windows 3.1 DOS Box VGA grabbing
It's not very well supported - at least the IBM VGA board doesn't implement it, and most clone boards followed suit. Given this, and that IRQ2 might be used by something else, I find it unlikely that any Windows drivers would attempt to use it.

3DA is emulated (see svga_in() in vid_svga.c). If it wasn't most games wouldn't work and most video BIOSes wouldn't initialise.

Re: Battler's speed issues
My main concern with modelling out-of-order CPUs is that while, with a vast amount of effort, you could model execution time within a block, you would be unable to model time across multiple blocks. This would be something of an issue for a P6 core, as the average code block is about 6 instructions,...

Re: Cache size?
Yes, it helps by making the emulated processor much much slower. It's a pretty dismal simulation of a bad memory system.
