Testing the big load of DOS demos on the freedos-powered "PC DOS Mini" hard drive image, i've been getting loads of JemmEx crashes that occurs on 430VX Pentiums, FIC K6/2s and the WinChip interpreter with a large amount of demos which does not occur on the V14 release.

Re: Speed timings for emulated hard disks
I certainly wouldn't oppose to an option to limit hard drive access speed. I already sort of did a slow down the floppy controller in my noise patch.... Heck, for even more accuracy, one could go as far as to add support for a hard drive database file to match names, speeds, and dimensions (......an...

Re: Spear of Destiny DOS Hang
If it's the softkey/smartsaver one from 1999, that seems to work fine for me? Can use the VB-based launcher in Win98 to install and run games without hangs on K6/2 in the current tree and PMMX233 on the V14 release. Maybe your CD is scratchy all along!!!

Re: v15 compatibility & bug list (WIP)
Noticed with Unreal Gold there's a bad CMDFIFO crash with the Voodoo2 that happens on AudioPCI but not AWE32. I think the FIC is causing the AudioPCI and Voodoo2 to fight. I did hear some crackly distorted noise before it crashed PCem. Couldn't seem to reproduce it on 430VX. Bad es1371_outb: port=f8...

Re: [Patch] Floppy drive noises
I tried to time it against the bootup seek of my drives and a DOS scandisk surface scan after booting from a Win98 startup disk. It's possible the notyet hack I needed to do made the seeking slower somewhere (there is an unwanted bug of the drive not responding sometimes, I tried to raise the speed ...

Here it is, my hacky simulated floppy drive head noise code and samples! Notes/bugs: - Only works properly for 100ms sound buffer length - only cares about 3.5" as I haven't recorded any 5.25" drives at this point - Hard drives and keyboards heard in previous videos are not here - There's ...

Bumping this to say I haven't progressed since patch _14. The dithersub being slow in the interpreter kind of killed my motivation and the changes after _14 still aren't perfect as I still couldn't match against the big table. i'm also unsure on how to test the bit to enable/disable dithersub withou...

Re: Display adapter conflift running Pentium 60 / S3 Virge / Win95
My instinct would go toward installing at least the Virge display driver from the DirectX6 driver bundle, and then deleting the conflicting device for a redetection later.

Yep. The mouse polling rate is significantly lower on old serial and PS/2 mice. It's also an added compatibility benefit as there's some old games that *really* don't like fast mice, some with a badly implemented mouse filter...

Re: PCem Won’t Boot Windows
It's in "BIOS FEATURES SETUP" Go to the boot sequence and keep hitting PGDN until you read CDROM,C,A If you have an OEM Win98se CD, it'll boot now. However make sure you partition your drive with FDISK first if you haven't already. Yes, 1, 1, 1 yes etc. Reboot and then repeat the same boot...

Re: Maybe create a set of recommended system profiles?
That's........already what it does. A lot of this is frankly overkill for dragging the video card from CGA and sound card from none in their combo boxes.
The only preset profile I can realistically see is one for an Xi8088 PC for downstream convenience/compliance of a basic open XT clone.

Re: Newer X-Wing Games and PCem
I don't have those later X-Wing games, but have you tried slightly earlier Voodoo2 drivers pre-DirectX7? I.e. V3.03.00 The DirectX 7 beta (V3.03.00b) and latest V2 driver (V3.02.02) makes some Direct3D HAL regressions with a few late Direct3D games like AvP which came around the time of Alliance, fo...

Re: CD Image Format - Blindwrite
I don't think supporting many specific proprietary formats are the way to go though. I'm on the CloneCD side of things where the same image could also double as a bin/cue and i've .ccd'd most of my copyprotected games (and sometimes, works in PCem if I use VirtualCloneDrive with them - but not alway...

You might also want to look into trying the ATI Mach64 as well, which emulates faster for me but i'm not a fan of its textmode fonts.
IIRC Win95 doesn't ship with a TGUI9440 driver, though DirectX 3 should have one.

Re: Some Lag On Some 2D Graphics
The software rasterizer in Microsoft's OpenGL32.dll was always slow though. it's kind of a miracle they squeezed that performance - while being perspective correct - out of 3d maze on a Pentium at all! The video backend you choose shouldn't matter for the screensaver as it's going to through to GDI ...
