Re: [Linux] GUI discussion
PCem could use some shadery action... (and maybe have monitor "emulation" from it by picking a list of simulated monitors and maybe with appropriate edid emulation and the sync errors/phosphor trail buffer/fade in/color pollution) Yes, that would be incredible. I've always wanted to be ab...

AGI stalls?
Quick question for Sarah: does the CPU emulation currently make any attempt to account for the latencies caused by AGI stalls? As I look at the "elements taken into account" and "elements not taken into account" lists at the top of codegen_timing_pentium.c, for example, I'm not s...

Re: Host machine survey
Xeon W3690 64gb RAM GTX 1080 Windows 10 x64 All I use PCem for is recreating my old AMD 386/40mhz, and the emulation is faithful to the point that my memory recalls and reacts instinctiely to the same lags, stuttering and timings of things like a certain part of a certain game, or compiling certain...

Re: Issues with EGA emulation
That's interesting, but still suggests something like an improper pointer or improperly defined/allocated memory or I/O somewhere in vid_ega.c or vid_ega.h, I would think. The weird probing that the IBM EGA BIOS does is likely hitting some rarely used port or memory edge case or something that the S...

Re: Statement on the recent flamewar between me and Battler
Er, I don't think the budget is there to hire anyone. What a weird suggestion... Truth be told, I think the moderation here is pretty much fine as is. Things get kind of silly sometimes, but mostly it's all under control. I don't know that we need to be asking for more in that area from Sarah...

Re: PCem and FX-8350 / 8370
I am trying to retain the ability to run Windows XP and 7 as Windows 10 is limited in what it can do, especially for programs from the years 1997-2006. Sorry if this is a bit of a derail, but can you elaborate a bit on what "limitations" of Windows 10 you're worried about? I'm going to be...

Re: Issues with EGA emulation
This is actually a very old bug--I reported it years ago, before this forum even existed. PCem's EGA support has always been semi-functional and lag/crash prone for me, whether using DirectDraw or Direct3D. As you point out, this is entirely exclusive to EGA and has never affected CGA, VGA, or any o...

Re: [Bug] Warcraft 2 displays nothing
Has anyone done any further digging on the Warcraft 2 issue that was the original point of this thread? The conclusion seemed to be that this is a genuine PCem bug, but it's not clear whether anyone has looked into it further or has a clear idea of what the problem might be.

Yeah, let's not go down this road. We've got a good thing going here, and it really shouldn't be too much to ask for everyone to respect the basic ground rules and refrain from engaging in shady behavior. Let's not fuck this up.

Re: [Patch] CGA monochrome & selectable mono display
The difference between a monochrome EGA or VGA monitor and a color RGB one should be fairly self-explanatory, no?
Seriously, monochrome EGA and VGA monitors weren't very common, but they were a thing. I just thought it'd be fun to extend the monochrome CGA support to cover them.

Re: [Bug] Warcraft 2 displays nothing
See, questions like this: Ok, then what if someone releases nightly builds of PCem outside this site? You can't do anything to prevent so. Come on, this is just silly. Sarah is legally responsible for what's on her own site, not for versions of her emulator that other people put up on other sites. I...

Re: [Bug] Warcraft 2 displays nothing
I've got to say, it does make good sense to have a firm policy about not hosting any copyrighted material here. Lots of sites draw a firm line on that; this shouldn't be controversial. Can we stop wasting time with silly arguments about it? There are lots of other places to vent disdainfully about c...

Re: [Patch] Add NukedOPL
Depending on your host machine and guest configuration, it's possible to get a very significant speed hit from NukedOPL. The accuracy is excellent, but of course that comes at a price. Battler's patch makes NukedOPL the default but leaves open the option to use the previous, less-accurate OPL emulat...

Re: [Patch] Add NukedOPL
Good thinking including that option to switch back to the original OPL3 emulation, with NukedOPL as the default. Last I checked, the speed hit was considerable enough to be an issue when emulating faster machines, but NukedOPL's improvements are major enough to demand its use in all other circumstan...

Re: [Patch] CGA monochrome & selectable mono display
Yeah, this is pitch-perfect. Thanks to all involved! It would also be really cool to be able to add support for monochrome EGA and VGA monitors, though I'm not sure how much work would be involved in getting that working, realistically speaking. Does anyone know?

Re: [Bug] Warcraft 2 displays nothing
I'm a bit confused--on real hardware, doesn't Warcraft 2 run just fine with cards like the ATI Graphics Pro Turbo and Phoenix S3 Trio64? I could swear I remember playing it on a pretty wide variety of systems of that vintage, back in the day. Am I misremembering that, or am I misunderstanding what t...

Sounds good. He did a fair amount of research on those colors and they're probably about as good as we're ever going to get without going much more in-depth on emulating different individual monitors etc. Well done!

Re: [BUG] Windows 95 desktop corruption with S3 Trio64
I guess we have to wait for the S3 Trio64 emulation to be complete. I'm a bit confused about this comment. I understand that the Number Nine Trio64 emulation is incomplete in various ways, particularly insofar as that board does differ in some ways from a standard Trio64, but what about the Phoenix...

[Patch] EuroPC CPU fix
The Schneider EuroPC uses a Siemens 8088 with some unusual clock speed options. It certainly does not support an 8086. I've corrected the CPU options in this patch, as well as the name of the machine as displayed in the list.

Re: Feature request: revamping config files
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know about the --config switch. I was just saying that, because we've got that switch, the proposed change wouldn't prevent people from booting straightaway at launch if that's what they want to do. I don't really see why a selector window or "home screen" of some ...

Re: Feature request: revamping config files
Yeah, I've got to say--I've always found it a little odd the way PCem starts booting a machine immediately upon launch. Given that most users will be juggling multiple emulated machines, it would really make a lot more sense to have a config selector come up first as the default behavior. The abilit...
