OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
I decided to test OS/2 2.0 on PCem again (hg revision 296) and the emulated computer hard resets after the kernel starts (I get the prompt to insert disk 1 and the OS/2 splash screen shows up.)
This has been happening with OS/2 2.0 since at least v9.
If it helps, OS/2 2.1 also crashes if I am using a 386 CPU, the error is as follows:
SYS3175
A program generated an access violation at 1a090911
NPXEMLTR.DLL 0001:00000911

EBP=00008e8a FLG=00002246
This error looks like OS/2's FPU emulator doesn't like something about the CPU.
The configuration I am using for both OSes:
Machine: AMI 386 clone
Video: Tseng ET4000AX
CPU: Intel i386DX/33
Cache: Some
Video speed: Fast 16-bit
Soundcard: None
Memory: 8MB

Issues with OS/2 1.3 and OS/2 Warp 3; OS/2 Warp 4 bugs
I think that we have a bigger problem here and it has to do with the OS/2 operating system itself.
1. OS/2 1.3
OS/2 1.31 installer stops on the first diskette install with the error message after displaying the text splash message:
2. OS/2 Warp 3 and 4
Hard disk format error in OS/2 Warp 3:
This didn't help and I wound up getting a "Execute Program Error". This means that the installation program has failed due to an error.
I'm currently trying to do a floppy-based installation of OS/2 Warp 4 and the installation is buggy. in any even that it crashes PCem, I'll report back.
Here's a screenshot of OS/2 Warp 4 in PCem v9 r292:
I tested out Warp 4 after the floppy installation has completed and found out a few things.
1. The RTC clock does not function under Warp 4.
2. Machine hangs in a Win-OS/2 session after selecting the Clock accessory which uses the RTC clock.
By the way, has anyone tried to install OS/2 Warp 3 and OS/2 Warp 4 using the debugger (interpreter and re-compiler) version of PCem yet?
I'm hoping that Tom will become aware of this bug, if any errors occur. I did the OS/2 Warp 4 test installation on the Award SiS 496/497-based Intel 80486DX2 @ 66 MHz machine. I'm using the Number Nine FX graphics card with 1 MB VRAM and 16 MB system memory.

(Memory had to be set to 8 MB, because OS/2 1.3 only supports a maximum of 16 MB.)A disk read error occurred.
Insert a system diskette and restart the system.
2. OS/2 Warp 3 and 4
Hard disk format error in OS/2 Warp 3:
It seems that OS/2 Warp 3 doesn't know how to properly format hard disks. To workaround this problem, I hit Hard Reset, start MS-DOS, create a partition using FDISK and format the partition.Format Error - An error occurred when System Installation
The installation program has failed due to an error. To view the error, look at the INSTALL.LOG file that was created for you.
That file gives the condition that caused the error.
Press Enter to display INSTALL.LOG.
To take action to correct the error, insert the Operating System/2 Installation Diskette in drive A. Press and hold the Ctrl and Alt keys; then press the Del key. When the Logo panel is displayed, remove the Installation diskette, insert OS/2 Diskette 1 and press Enter. When the Welcome screen is displayed, press Esc.
Once you have corrected the error, restart OS/2 Installation by inserting the Operating System/2 Installation Diskette in Drive A. Press and hold the Ctrl and Alt keys; then press the Del key.
If the problem persists, contact your dealer or technical coordinator, or report the problem to IBM. (Refer to the Service and Support Information Card in the OS/2 package for details.)

Thank you for fixing the disk error bug when attempting to install OS/2 1.3. If I update to r297, I'll test OS/2 1.3 and Warp 3 to see if the disk error bug is gone.TomWalker wrote:Rev 297 fixes the OS/2 1.3 disc error bug.

Re: OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
OS/2 2.0 should be working fine as of rev 300.
Incidentally, I now officially hate OS/2. And also the concept of conforming code segments.

Aww. Why do you dislike OS/2, including the concept of conforming code segments?TomWalker wrote:OS/2 2.0 should be working fine as of rev 300.

Re: OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
OS/2 2.0 still hard resets after the splash screen (after inserting disk 1) but the NPXEMLTR.DLL error in OS/2 2.1 is fixed.
edit: OS/2 2.1 successfully installed on the AMI 386 clone.

Re: OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
Since this seems to be a general OS/2 bug thread, I thought I should mention the other OS/2 bug that I have been experiencing: When the OS/2 1.0, 1.1 or (IBM) 1.2 installer attempts to format the hard drive, it fails but doesn't give me very much information. There is a workaround for this bug and that is to run FORMAT from an MS-DOS 3.3 diskette.
The Microsoft OS/2 1.2x and all 1.3x releases are not affected by this bug.
The system I am using for these versions:
Machine: AMI 286 clone
Video: Tseng ET4000AX
CPU: 286/12
Cache: A bit
Video speed: Fast 16-bit
Soundcard: none
Memory: 4MB (The maximum for OS/2 1.0)

Re: OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
OS/2 2.0 now installs successfully as of rev 301!
I'm sure all of the versions will run in PCem soon enough (OS/2 is probably one of the best CPU emulation conformance tests that exist)

Thank you for fixing the bugs in OS/2 1.3 and OS/2 2.0. Once I update to r301, I will do a test installation of OS/2 Warp 3 and if there are any problems, I will report back.

Re: OS/2 2.0 installer hard resets after loading kernel
I tested the CD versions of OS/2 Warp 3.0 and I got the following results:
Version 3.0 (Internal revision 8.162): Starts up and then pops up an error that it cannot find a CD-ROM drive (and I know this version supports ATAPI CD-ROMs because I used to run this version on a Toshiba laptop with an ATAPI CD-ROM.)
Version 3.0 (Internal revision 8.209): Displays this TRAP error after the installer starts:
