Battle Chess Enhanced CD-ROM for DOS, version 1.00

Post by gladstone »

Hi

I'm trying to play Battle Chess Enhanced CD-ROM for DOS, version 1.00. The dos version is on the CD-ROM D:\CDCHESS.

I installed the game and the options Trident for VGA and Sound Blaster Pro for sound.
It's playable until a fight animation, then it freezes.
Also tried loading the VESA.exe with the same result.

Use MS-DOS 6.22

model = sis496
cpu = 10
gfxcard = tgui9440
sndcard = sbprov2
mem_size = 16384

It could be a game bug itself, but if any have suggestions :D

Regards

Oddly I can't seem to reproduce this on AMI486 with Cx486 on recompiler with the Tgui9440 and CDchess configured for Trident and DOS 6.22. How's your CONFIG.SYS?

Since you've got DOS 6.22 you could try running MEMMAKER for luck.

EDIT: couldn't reproduce it on SIS496, 16mb nor interpreter either. I am running it off the CD with the data file skipped though...

Hello ok, that's odd. I can't get it working.
I even tried launch directly from cd-rom with \CDCHESS\cdchess.exe
I also run memmaker

My config.sys

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM
BUFFERS=15,0
FILES=30
DOS=UMB
LASTDRIVE=E
FCBS=4,0
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,12048 =C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
DOS=HIGH
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,11264 =C:\CDPRO\VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:MSCD001

First thing I can think of: Are you using MSCDEX driver or one of the newer ones like SHSUCDX?

I had a lot of strange behavior using SHSUCDX so I switched back, with a proper config/autoexec setup you can fit it all into UMB anyways.

Hi yes. It's Microsoft MSCDEX Version 2.23.
I tried a old Battle Chess DEMO, however that worked, but on me CD-version seems updated on the graphics.

The CD-ROM I have is published by Dice multimedia DMM 010534 English
Cover on the back says Dice multimedia DCG 010527
And it does not contain audio-tracks.

I'll give dosbox a try, maby this Battle Chess version is broken.

Did you make a bin/cue of your disc? I'd imagine it'd hang trying to play an audio track that doesn't exist for each animation, and Interplay's early CD titles were a bit on the rough side of quality...

Mine's a 1.00 disc from a sound card/cdrom bundle circa '94.
