Hello! I am somewhat new to PCem, was following this tutorial & got stuck right as I was mounting my floppy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNRSzPRN7Dg

After mounting it I get this error, "Error: PCI Read Configuration Failure", attempting to troubleshoot what is causing this. Running Windows 95 4.03, I just got a second ISO copy so i don't think it's that.

100 mb memory
Tseng ET4000AX

New error, disregard the one above. Stuck in the same spot though.

Found a different Boot ISO, these are the windows that pop up. It doesn't go any further to install windows

*edit
I'm suspecting maybe it's because I have win95 osr 2.5, downgrading to a lower version, Windows 95b

That's odd have you updated to PCem v14 yet? You seem to be using an outdated version of PCem.

Updated it but given the same error with this particular floppy.
Tried two other verisons of the floppy and received this result

I'm not sure if i'm missing a step, but I've been attempting to find solutions to this with only dead ends..

At first, maybe you should configure your BIOS with 1.44 Mb floppy. Based on your screenshot they are configured as 2.88 Mb.
Then after, change your CPU to an Intel DX2/66 for instance and don't use dynarec.
You should also lower guest memory to 64 Mb max.

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I will definitely try that this evening

I really appreciate the advice though!

The currently emulated AMI WinBIOS 486 board does not support PCI. If you want a PCI 486 to emulate you'll have to fetch a SiS 496/497 bios somewhere

Was that reply in regards to my first post? I haven't received a "PCI" error after I switched from Win95c to Win95b. Would you recommend any other particular machine for emulating 3D games? Apologies if I come off as ignorant, I am not super privy on older hardware. Been reading off of guides online. I already have a voodoo driver on-hand, haven't figured out how to add it into PCem v14 yet, a lot of guides seem to be on the older versions that had a different interface.

This is the current error I can't seem to get around. I have switched again, from Win95b to Win95a, experiencing the same issue. Can't seem to initiate the setup past inserting the floppy disk.

Current specs
486 AMI WinBIOS 486
Intel i486SX/33
15mg memory
no dynamic rec
TsengET4000AX Fast VLB
3.5 1.44M floppies
16x CDROM
1 HDD and 1 CDROM

I am going to keep messing around to see if I can figure it out still. *crosses fingers*

If you've already formatted your drive with a newer Windows than 95A, chances are it's FAT32. Windows 95 only supported FAT16 at best originally. Note that you won't be able to emulate the Voodoo on that AMI WinBIOS 486 due to the whole PCI-lacking thing

For 3d stuff Award 430vx is what you'll want as that's Socket 7 and supports a vast range of emulated 5th generation processors from 75mhz to 300mhz (about all of them are relevant for voodoo emulation).

Thank you for the tips!
I did a clean reinstall of PCem v14. Made many attempts and combinations with new virtual machines (not on the same one) to initialize the windows 95 installation, same exact results.. only used the same version of Win95 for each attempt on a clean slate.

Video of a few attempts, maybe I'm doing something wrong? Honestly I'm not sure what to do next, thank you for trying to help. I do appreciate it a lot.

Everything looks fine to me. Are you not typing

Code: Select all

r:
cd win95
setup
?

Don't forget to do this after the fdisk reboot

Code: Select all

format c:
Fdisk only makes partitions, format makes them usable.
