Windows 98 SE audio lag

Post by robman501a »

I've made a Pentium 2 system for my old games and it works great but the only issue is that the sound is lagging. For example, when you click on the volume slider and Windows makes a 'ding' sound, it would go 'ding ding ding', like it repeats a bunch of times.
It's really bad when you run dxdiag and play back the 'direct sound' and 'direct music'.
I'm using the latest version of PCem, system specs are Core i5 2500k, 12GB RAM, HD AC'97 audio, Windows 10 x64.

Is the percentage in the title bar below 100%? If it is then your host machine isn't fast enough for the system you're trying to emulate. Drop the CPU speed until it is at 100%.

PCem doesn't emulate a Pentium 2 btw, so not sure what you're trying to emulate...

Hi Sarah, Here is the system I am trying to emulate.
Award 430VX PCI, Pentium MMX 233, 128 MB RAM, ATI Graphics Pro Turbo (Mach64 GX) Fast VLB/PCI, Voodoo 2, Sound Blaster 16, PS/2 Mouse.
The CPU speed is around 100 - 105%.

Do you think I'll have better results if I overclock my Core i5 2500k CPU a little bit?
Just going to add that my 7th gen i5 system has no issues whatsoever. :)
Probably it has to be my older i5 system like you said in your previous post.
