CD-ROM problem of PCem V15

Post by coolhaken »

Hi,

I tried the new released PCem V15 and found a CD-ROM issue there.
It can mount cue/bin CD image(s), but when the game check the CD as it's protection, it failed. Like this :
Don't know this is a bug or caused by my wrong configure ?

The game I tried is "仙劍奇俠傳 for DOS" released in Taiwan, and following is the machine configure :

PCem doesn't emulate CD copy protection (AFAIK).
Try mounting the image with Alcohol 120% and then in PCem mount that drive (Alcohol unit)

Thanks for your reply.
I have also tried the method you said, but got the same result. :(

Does the game expect D:\ to be your CDrom drive instead of whichever one you installed the game from? Sometimes that's an issue, though that's not a common one.

I also tried to mount the CD image as D:\ , without any luck however ...

After more times of test, I found the problem.
Not PCem's issue, it is the CD-ROM device drive's problem.
When I change "DEVICE=C:\TEAC_CDI.SYS /D:CD-ROM" in CONFIG.SYS to "DEVICE=C:\VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:CD-ROM", all things become well.

Have you tried the FIC VA-503+ super socket 7 motherboard with v15?

I have been trying to test high end K6-2 and K6-III cpus but I lose the CD-ROM drive, and many system drivers including display adapter drivers in WIn98 whenever I run this motherboard in PCem. This is very odd.

I can run the CD-ROM drive in MS-DOS mode only, not in Win98 itself. This puts me in the position of trying to reinstall Win98, which would most likely wipe the emulated hard disk.

I got a ton of windows protection error message whenever I tried to run these newer cpus in Win95. I thought Win98 would be easier to use but apparently this is not the case, as I am prevented from updating the display drivers due to the inability to read from the CD-ROM drive. Typically I use Win98 SE to iron out any driver issues that might arise, but this seems to not work this time. Not being able to read the emulated CD-ROM drive is a problem.

Has anyone had any difficulties using these newer K6 cpus in Win98?

EDIT: If you get this error, reinstall WIn98. It just worked for me now. I will do more testing, but this is a big development towards effective K6-2 and K6-III testing on this lenovo laptop powered by the i7 9750H cpu.

The K6 is not the source of your missing CD-ROM problem and is unrelated to this thread. Taking an installed Win9x from one motherboard to another will bring up IDE issues which would require either removing/reinstalling all device drivers, or (sometimes easier) a full reinstall.

Relatedly, I did notice a problem with AMI386 and MSDOS 6.22's MSCDEX + OTI drivers causing a restart though!

I apologize. It is my mistake. Reinstalling Win98 did fix this issue. The K6-2 450 is running Jedi Knight at about 100% in-game.

leilei, shall I remove these two posts of mine here? I do not want these posts to burden the thread.
