Invalid handler message when running game

Post by abk4523 »

I am using an Award SiS 496/497 iDX4/75 bios with 256 meg of memory and getting an error. when playing Menzoberrazan from The Forgotten Realms archive The message is "DFMEM: Aborted, error = 2, attempt to reference invalid handler". This happens when I run Windows 98 SE. The game has an intro which runs okay, I get the message when I select play. I tried the game on DOS 6.22 using an Amstrad Mega pc i386sx/16 bios and it runs okay. Is the Windows error something unique to my game and system or is there an easy fix? Thank you.

Does Menzoberrazan actually work on Windows 9x on real hardware? Might be worth confirming.

I just asked around, it appears the game works only in DOS. Sorry for bugging.

It works reasonably well, my only qualm is 98 takes up at least 200 meg of disk space. If you don't have a bios that supports LBA, it isn't worth using. 8-)

I made some tests.
I downloaded a floppy version of the game, and tried to run it within a DOS box under Windows 95 with a Pentium 75 and got the same error message, BUT then I tested another version, a CD version of the game (apparently the standalone game, with a CD label "MENZO_V1_0" and the game plays great under Windows 95 (in PCem)
