I have no mouth, and I must scream

Postby neozeed » Tue 08 Jul, 2014 4:47 am

I've been trying to run this under PCem with no success... It always crashes or locks up. I tried the latest source dump on git ( PCem-bd2ab065dd81.zip ) and the best info I could find was this:

Image

Code: Select all

DOS/16M error: [0] involuntary switch to real mode

then a minute later:

No ready writing to drive C
Abort, Retry, Fail?

My latest attempt was the AMI 486 DX2/66 with the Tseng ET 4000AX, a little cache, AWE32 sound, 16MB of memory.

I'm using MS-DOS 5.0

my config.sys
FILES=40
device=c:\dos\cd1.sys /d:cdrom01

autoexec.bat
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP
path=c:\dos
set BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2
ctm-en
mscdex /d:cdrom01

Thanks!

I think I solved my own issue by trying more sound card combinations... I went with the ultrasound for midi, and a soundblaster pro v2 for audio. The Ultrasound I configured with :

SET ULTRASND=240,3,3,7,7
SET ULTRADIR=C:\ULTRASND

And I set the IRQ of the sound blaster to 5, so it wasn't trying to share with the ultrasound and it seems much happier as I got beyond the character selection screen.

The only thing I'd suggest is volume control on the mixer? the general midi, and ultrasound overpower the soundblaster... but wow great emu!
