IBM XT - How to set up hard drive

Post by Katakis »

Hi,
I am trying to set up a hard drive for my IBM XT machine so I can install PC-DOS 2.0 + Windows 1.01 on it, but seem to be getting the "No fixed disks present" message when I run FDISK. Someone on VOGONS suggested getting a copy of ide_xt.bin and ide_xtp.bin, so I downloaded a copy at https://code.google.com/p/xtideuniversa ... loads/list and placed a copy inside the \roms directory as well as \roms\ibmxt (I tried 1.1.0 and 1.1.5). Unfortunately, that does not work for me at all. There are two files (idecfg.com and xtidecfg.com) but neither of these makes any sense to me.

you need 2.0.0 beta 3 of xtide for the IBM PC, XT and compatibles (though, not requested, 2.0.0 beta 3 should not be used for the PS/1, where you need 1.1.5 for it).

Thanks.

I read that the error I had was in relation to the MFM controller which PCem doesn't emulate yet. Is this true?
