Problem with Windows 3.1x and GUS

Post by Katakis »

I am trying to get the Gravis UltraSound working with Windows 3.1x, but the sound doesn't work properly regardless of whether I am using 3.1 or 3.11. The startup and shutdown sounds are cut off, but the other sounds are fine. Also, when you try exiting Windows, it locks up instead of returning you to DOS.

* The version of the drivers is 5.51
* On line 2 of AUTOEXEC.BAT, the GUS is set at 240,1,1,11,5
* In the UltraSound audio driver Setup, I have the Base port set at 240, DMA channel to 1, GF1 IRQ to 11, and MIDI IRQ to 5.
* These settings match those in the UltraSound MIDI port Setup

Never heard of the 5.51 driver. Use the 4.11 one that DOSbox uses. That one is stable and usable. MAKE SURE that the SB settings do NOT conflict with the GUS ones. I usually use 220,7,1,5 for SB and 240,5,3 for the GUS

Nope, doesn't work. Maybe there is a setting in the BIOS that causes this problem?

Maybe it's the two parallel ports conflicting IRQ-wise? As they use IRQ 5 and 7.
