CPU Speed PCem vs Real CPU

Post by Sammy75 »

Real PC:
-I can play NFS2SE with voodoo1 an a Pentium 1 100Mhz with acceptable framerate.
-On my Pentium 200 MMX with voodoo1 it runs very smooth.

Then i try PCem on my main system:
Core2quad 9550
8 Gb-Ram

I choose in Pcem: A S3Trio, Voodoo1 (recompiler) and a Pentium 166 (mmx), installled win95 and NFS2se with 3dfx.

But the game runs very poor, about 5fps / second.

Pcem says "100%" speed.

Cpu load on host is about 5% .

The emulated cpu is much to slow.

When i change cpu cyrix @ 300 or 333mhz, then i can play nfs2se good in PCem.

Now it feels like playing on a real pc between 100 and 200 mhz.

So i think the emulated pentium 166/200/mmx/overdrive are all to slow to the real versions.

And host system is not to slow to emulate them because pcem only takes about 5-10% of cpu during play. And needs not more, because in title bar it says pcem is running with 100%.

I'm not answering your question directly, but I have a question myself. Does PCem have a built-in FPS counter? Is what I have circled in red? Because it says 0 frames/sec and (612) then I interpret is 6,12 fps?

What do you have cache set to? It should be 'infinite' for most stuff. I know that the NFS games have had issues if it's set to anything else.

For 3DFX stuff, if it's displaying '0 frames/sec' then look at the SVGA refresh rate, which in this case is showing 21 FPS (or possibly 10, if you have vsync turned off in the 3DFX drivers). Some games don't use proper swap buffer commands, so the frame doesn't get registered by that count.
