Hi guys, i am really thankful for finding this project. pcem is a great emulator.
Unfortunately, despite having a linux version, pcem for linux isnt working.
I tried to install windows 98, it will crash right before trying to create a startup disk. If i use the /ie switch for the setup.exe, it will crash during copying files.
By crash i mean it will just close, there is no seg fault on terminal, nothing at all.
If i install the same image on windows, it will just fine, and i will boot this disk just fine on pcem for linux ( changing the cfg to point to the correctly image locations ) but randomly windows will close ( again with no message ).
Besides that, if i try to run 3dfx games ( tried resident evil 1 and extreme assault) , pcem will lock ( it wont close, it will hang )
I tried to compile using debug flags to try to gdb it, but it fails to compile when --enable-debug is set in configure script.
I dont see threads about pcem running in linux, so maybe this problems are not known at all.
Thanks for this great project !
Is linux version being worked on?
Re: Is linux version being worked on?
I'm using playonlinux to run it, myself. So far it seems to run alright.
Re: Is linux version being worked on?
Were you able to install windows 98 on it without crashing ?
Re: Is linux version being worked on?
Haven't tried; I'll give it a shot later and post my results.salatiel wrote:Were you able to install windows 98 on it without crashing ?
Re: Is linux version being worked on?
"without it crashing" is reletive, of course. I did have to do a hard reset immediately after install; that might have been my impatience, though. I didn't get a blue screen.salatiel wrote:Were you able to install windows 98 on it without crashing ?
Apart from that, I was able to install it, run the visual basic 6 installer, compile a simple vb6 program. That's as far as I got, I have an i5 2400S cpu which makes pentium emulation painful.
Here's my config, for what it's worth. Also, I am running neozeed's compile from the network thread.

Re: Is linux version being worked on?
I just installed os/2 2.1 on an emulated ps/1 2121 with a 129 hd and 6m ram.
That was using the stock wine (1.6) which came from the mint 18 repositories.
The performance is what I'd expect, the UI is better than I remember -though I did have to toggle the "settings -> video -> resizeable screen" menu item a couple of times to get it to work.
About all I can say is "it works for me".

Your config appears to be from windows. From windows i can install just fine. The problem is running the linux version!
Running in wine/playonlinux/crossover does not count =)

Re: Is linux version being worked on?
From this screenshot, it appears you are using the windows version, not the linux one.rliegh wrote:I just installed os/2 2.1 on an emulated ps/1 2121 with a 129 hd and 6m ram.

I took a while to see that. Sorry !rliegh wrote:^I am using the playonlinux and wine to run the windows version of pcem on Linux. I'm sorry -I thought I made that clear earlier.rliegh wrote:I'm using playonlinux to run it, myself. So far it seems to run alright.
Anyway thanks for your help, unfortunately i would expect that if we have a linux version, it should work.
I will try to see if i can make it work in playonlinux. It will already be of great help.
