Jagged Alliance not Install in DOS 6.22

EDIT: Hello, I've solved the problem by installing Free DOS 1.2

1. You can not install Jagged Alliance on DOS 6.22

The game intallator says "Can not open quickstr.sav"
Image
I have to install the game in DOSBOX and copy the "Jagged" folder to PCEM.
Now the game can be run but a small bug in the graphic water and the shadow of the tree's blue water is white.
Image
VGA emulation is not correct?
The game needed a specific VGA 256 color.

Still does not work to change the sound card "setsound.exe" when you want to save the settings it writes an error that you can not open the file "sound.cfg"

2. This graphical problem is not in windows 95-98, but the game is choppy on the CPU's 50% non-100% feature.

Even installation will be fine without error "Can not open quickstr.sav"

It also works to change the sound card in setsound the error sound.cfg is not.

Can anyone please try if you have the same Problem

Cannot reproduce any of this (the installation errors, the soundset errors, water, trees etc) . Even the water looks fine in both Win9x and DOS 6.22
the only unusual issue is the pentium recompiler slowing down in a lot of it (13-40%) and that's nowhere near fatal. Game is fine and dandy on 486 recompiler however (which is fine as it doesn't need more than a dx2/66 to be perfectly playable.)

I've noticed that some DOS programs shows abnormal low performance drops with any pentium cpu selected in actual PCem builds. I've tried Dreams to Reality and Pyl (Dust) with the PCem from 18.07.2017 (commit 16a453b). Performance stutters most at a game launch. Also in Pyl this could be easily observed anytime you bring the menu from the actual game run. Status window shows the drop in Real speed MIPS, but effective clock remains stable. There is no such issue with the public PCem v12 release.

I'm getting the same error.
leilei: did you install under MS-DOS 6.22 or Windows 9x's DOS?

EDIT: I tested it with a 486 with dynamic recompiler enabled and disabled. None of them work

If you're using the same image I am, it appears to be broken or incompatible with DOS 6.22 MSCDEX.EXE in some way - half the directories on it are inaccessible through DOS. I've tried this with multiple drivers, and also in Bochs with no success.

I'd say it's a bad dump. My image works fine (and definitely doesn't date to xmas 96)
omarsis81 wrote: leilei: did you install under MS-DOS 6.22 or Windows 9x's DOS?
Both. I've tried it in both a 3.1/DOS6.22 config and a Win95 config. should mention i am using oak cdrom drivers off the w95 bootdisk for the dos6.22 install because that's always been a habit of mine when i can't find my cdrom driver diskette

In addition, Jagged Alliance Deadly Games also has the same install/setup routines and that works no problem too.

EDIT: My cd's 25mb smaller, so it could be possibly a badly mastered later budget release with some manuals integrated on there.

I have been working with this all weekend, I have news!

Experiment 1 - I burned the ISO image we both have and installed it in real hardware and installs perfect, so: it is NOT a bad dump

Experiment 2 - I mounted the ISO outside PCem, copied all the files to a folder, then I opened a blank hard disk image with WinImage, injected all the files and finally, I mounted this image with PCem and installed the game from there, works perfectly also!

Experiment 3 - Under DOSBOX, I mounted a hard disc letter and the same ISO we both have (Sarah and me), it installs perfectly fine and reads all the folders

I did notice many directories cannot be read, like "MISC", but that only happens in PCem. All directories can be read in DOSBOX, real hard burned CD and from a virtual CD mounted with any program like Alcohol or PowerISO

With all this I can safely conclude there's some bug in PCem's CD-ROM

What CD drivers were you using on real hardware?

Under plain MS-DOS 6.22 on real hard I tried with two CDROM readers and the image didn't work. It must be a bug of MS-DOS.

However, I noticed the following:
The two CDROM readers I have are: Sony AD-7200A (as a matter of fact: DVD reader) and Sony CRX175E.

With both drives I could load the driver "ATAPI_CD.SYS" and "CD3.SYS" LITE-ON driver, but they don't load with PCem's CDROM. What I meant with this is: PCem however generic, must be based around a specific CDROM driver. Do you know what brand/model is? Based on what I tested is NOT a Sony one.

No, it's a bug with Microsoft's MSCDEX. With the DR-DOS equivalent it works fine, same for with SHSUCDX.
