When IBM rolled out the Personal System/2 launch models 30, 50, 60 and 80 on April 2, 1987, these models had a integrated VGA chip. When VGA was introduced, IBM also introduced another display adapter, the IBM 8514/A.
The 8514/A display adapter offered 640 x 480 pixels @ 256 colours and 1024 x 768 pixels @ 256 colours out if 262,144 colours (18-bit). I believe that the PS/2 Model 50, 60 and 80 supported the 8514/A microchannel (MCA) adapter and was incompatible with any previous IBM graphics standards. Unfortuantely, IBM never built a ISA-based 8514/A board, but several clone manufacturers did so.
Here's some infomration on the IBM 8514/A display adapter: http://ohlandl.ipv7.net/video/8514A.html
Here's a better picture of the 8514/A MCA display adapter: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... M_8514.jpg
The 8514/a was succeeded by the IBM eXtended Graphics Adapter (XGA) released in 1990. Here's some information on the XGA-1 adapter: http://ps-2.kev009.com/ohlandl/video/XGA1.html
And here's some information on the IBM XGA-2 adapter: http://ps-2.kev009.com/ohlandl/video/XGA2.html
The XGA-1 adapter offered two resoulutions: 640 x 480 pixels @ 256 colours and 1024 x 78 pixels @ either 16 or 256 colours.
The XGA-2 adapter added a 24-bit DAC. However, it was only used to extended the 256-colour master palette and allow 256-grayscale output instead of the 64-grayscale out previously available. The XGA-2 adapter offered support for 800 x 600 SVGA modes up to 65,536 colours.
Here are some good photos of the XGA-2 adapter: http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/new ... 1397-xga-2
Now, if anyone has any other information regarding the IBM 8514/A, IBM XGA-1 and IBM XGA-2 adapters and how it can be implemented, let me know.

Interesting request though it's hard to find datasheet for theses cards. I hope they will be added to Pcem someday.

These documents are I/O port information of IBM 8514/A and XGA adaper. These may help to implement the emulation of IBM 8514/A and XGA card.

Thank you so much for the help. The documentation on the IBM 8514/A and XGA adapters are really helpful!Greatpsycho wrote: ↑Sun 29 Apr, 2018 8:15 am These documents are I/O port information of IBM 8514/A and XGA adaper. These may help to implement the emulation of IBM 8514/A and XGA card.
I can't wait to see the IBM 8514/A and XGA video cards being emulated soon!
