Die Hard Trilogy won't start up (DLL error)

Post by SuperWill99 »

I have been unable to run the game Die Hard Trilogy on either of my emulated Windows 98 SE installs. The setup runs fine, but when I actually attempt to run the game, I get the following error message:

"Error Starting Program
The AVIFIL32.DLL file is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:memmove."

And then in a second window below it:

"C:\Fox\Die Hard\game\DIEHARD.EXE
A device attached to the system is not functioning."

I also have the exact same error while trying to run a completely different movie program. This error is definitely related to the AVI files the game uses. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Is it actually supposed to be supported on Windows 98 SE?

Can you post the system configuration file on what machine that was used to try to run one of the games in Windows 98 Second Edition? Die Hard Trilogy was released on August 31, 1996.

If your configuration meets or exceeds the system requirements, then PCem v15 has some bugs that need to be worked out: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Die_Hard_ ... quirements

I think I finally managed to figure out how to solve the problem: the DLL file got messed up when I installed a seemingly faulty 3D program. Now it works!

Good to hear that you got it working again. :)

I'll have to try it out as well. But personally, I've always preferred the PS1 version though. Unrelated to PCEM, but have you tried it on a PS1 emulator like epsxe?

Been awhile since I tested the waters on other PS1 emulators, so beg my pardon if there's a better emulator out there.

My PSX emulator preference is Mednafen. It's also a very good Saturn emulator too. Both are for faithful accuracy reasons with no hi-res cruft to sidetrack like about everything else before it (pSX and SSF being exceptions, but those are closed source)
