Confirmed CPUs that emulate the Pentium MMX 233 without stuttering

Post by DevanDrake99 »

-AMD Ryzen 3 2300x @ 3.5 GHz (4 Cores)
-AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.6 GHz (6 Cores)
-Intel Core i5-8400 @ 2.8 GHz (6 Cores)

I've tested three of these computers at Best Buy with my own flash drive just for testing purposes.

My CPU is an AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz (6 Cores), but my CPU's architecture (Bulldozer) really suck. The architecture is the main problem. As I play Quake II running on Pentium MMX 233, I get the emulation speeds between 35% and 50%.

Even the 2nd gen Ryzen 3 can handle the MMX 233 without dropping emulation speeds.

Comment down about your opinions. I wrote this just to save some money.

Even running with Voodoo1 3D accelerators doesn't affect the emulation speed.

What did you run within the machine?

Try Puyo Puyo 2, that one made my old 6700K stutter a bit. I would imagine that all them would have issues as well.

It shouldn't, Voodoo emulation is on a separate thread than the CPU.

Prior to the release of the AMD Ryzen series of CPUs, AMD had a bad reputation because of the AMD FX series. AMD FX CPUs don't run single-threaded games at 100% in general. Valve Source titles only support single threads. AMD FX problems are about weak threads and cores. Running single thread software has terrible performance when it comes to AMD FX CPUs.

I don't know why but I laughed at the thought of this. Plugging in a USB stick, running PCem for a minute, then shifting down to the next computer lol. I'm surprised they didn't kick you out.

I'm still curious to how it performs on a I9 10900 or above. Nobody on this forum has the CPU yet, it seems.
