Hello,
The Compaq Deskpro 386 could have a hard drive of 40 MB (Type 17).
I have created the file with Type 17 and chosen [MFM] AT Fixed Disk Adapter as HDD:
When I boot I get this message:
I type F1, boot Compaq DOS 3.10 from diskette and type fdisk c:
I get the message "No Fixed Disks":
What should I do to make it recognize the hard drive?
Thanks

Re: Hard drive for the Compaq Deskpro 386
AFAIR, Compaq used ESDI hard drives on their Deskpro computers.
My Deskpro PCem machine uses a WD1007 ESDI controller and a 1024h 8c 17s hard drive (those figures came from the Deskpro datasheets), but in older versions you could use XTIDE BIOS as non-native HDD controller.

Re: Hard drive for the Compaq Deskpro 386
You need to configure the hard drive in BIOS setup. For the Deskpro 386 it's disc based, so you need a copy of the Compaq setup disc.

From COMPAQ Diagnostics 5.08, I start SETUP 5.05:
Default type is 42:
I change it to 17:
After reboot, two beeps (which means the POST has completed) but a black screen:

I was originally with i386DX/16-CGA. Made it work with i386DX/20-Hercules.
