Hi! I have some question about PCem V16 run in AMD ryzen 5 1200 (MMX(+), SSE,SSE2,SSE3,SSSE3,SSE4.1,SSE4.2,SSE4A,x86-64,AMD-V,AES,AVX,AVX2,FMA3,SHA) with 8GB DDR4 2666mhz ram, and a 120GB kingstone SSD
when I run PCem V16 simulate Intel Pentium MMX 233Mhz, OS:Windows 3.1/95/98/ME/NT3.0/3.1/4.0/5.0 RAM: 64MB Hard Drive: 520MB to 4GB (FAT16/FAT32) when booting to OS it sounds stuttering? Because CPU Intructions not support? or not compalable Intel Pentium MMX CPU because different CPU vender?
why ryzen5 1200 simulate Win98 sound suttering?
Re: why ryzen5 1200 simulate Win98 sound suttering?
Any reason you're using v16 and not v17?
The sound is stuttering because the emulation speed is dropping below 100%, because that ryzen's single core performance isn't high enough to handle a pentium 233 (EDIT: in that particular situation). It has nothing to do with instructions or CPU brand.
Search the forum. There are a lot of performance related threads that would be of help.

Windows 9x does heavy access when it boots and that's a bottleneck to the emulation when it does and it happens to everybody.

PCem does require a good single core output as was mentioned. My R7 2700X sound stutters when booting win98SE if I'm going 200MHz or more on the Pentium emulation. I was trying to find a Ryzen 5 1200 to compare and can only find Ryzen 3 1200s. My cpu is not far ahead on single core, maybe 20% or so, but overall for this it's sort of comparable. There is stutter when starting but I found for what I'm doing (Cossacks multiplayer, hundreds if not thousands of entities) it's handling the emulation decently. I do have 16GB of ram and that may help quite a bit.
Looking to get an I5 13600K and assorted required supporting components shortly, right after I buy my wife a new diamond. I'm not kidding, it's our 40th anniversary coming up and if I want to see the 41st I better cough up some jewellery.
Time to cash in some RRSPs

Ryzen 3 is the correcting branding for the Ryzen 1200 cpu.NiagaraMike wrote: ↑Fri 07 Apr, 2023 12:47 am I was trying to find a Ryzen 5 1200 to compare and can only find Ryzen 3 1200s.
- Ryzen 3, 5, 7, and 9 brands are more or less the same as core i3, i5, i7, and i9 brands.
- The first number 1 is the generation. Also similar to Intel, but currently lower, but they are catching up. (After the ninth generation Intel uses 2 numbers for this.)
- After that the remaining number 200 is the model indicator, which are more or less linked to the brands, just like Intel.

Yep. An R3 1200 is going to have issues keeping the sound smooth on win98SE. My R7 2700X was mostly smooth but the I5-2500k was stuttering noticeably. Just upgraded a couple days ago to an I5-13600KF relegating the R7 to guest computer status and retiring the 2500k. The new I5 is performing solid on a Pentium MMX 233 VM.Both the R7 2700x and I5 2500k did real well over the years. Amazing value and longevity for the dollar. Almost as good as my old GTX250 card. Wish I kept that card.
