Voodoo emulation works almost always at 100%, but it has the host CPU working at 80% (I have HT disabled).
I can’t even imagine what CPU would it take to emulate a Voodoo2 SLI hehe

I do wonder about Voodoo 2 is it really no more than a Voodoo with an extra texture unit and a higher clock? If so I could understand why there would be little rush to emulate it. Still it does not seem like it would take much more to do so. I also am guessing the extra CPU power it would take would not be all that great.

I could be mistaking though. If I am and anyone has any incites or information that could help me understand more than I do currently I would greatly appreciate your input.

There are a few extra bits with Voodoo 2 (triangle setup engine, a few more texture and blend modes, new command protocol) but nothing that will have a massive impact. The 2-4x speed increase over Voodoo 1 means that just emulating one of them will take a LOT more CPU power.

That's what I thought. Maybe a futuristic Intel i9 with 12 cores would do ;)

Howdy folks, new to the forums. Figured I would start with the survey. Currently using a laptop with an i7 - 4770MQ / 8GB / Win 10.

Edit: I would like to toss out a hearty thanks for this excellent package!

Self-build
AMD FX-6300 Six-core 3.5GHz
8GB RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 960
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (with alternative BIOS boot to XP Pro or Windows 10 Pro)
About 6TB connected/internal storage (about half of which is SSD)
(PLus a further 10TB on LAN)
Three Dell U2713HM Monitors @ 2560x1440 each

This PC, like my broom, is decades old - I've only replaced the handle a few times,... oh - and the brush too.

MSI Gaming M5 ATX motherboard (LGA1151, Intel Z170) in custom built system
Intel i7 6700K 4.0GHz Quad Core [14nm SkyLake Quad Core, 4.0GHz, 8 MB L1 cache]
16.0 GB of GSkill DDR4 2400 RAM (2x 8GB)
EVGA (04G-P4-2974-KR) nVidia GeForce GTX 970 [4 GB GDDR5, 1664 shaders, 1165 core / 1317 boost clock] (PCIe 3.0 16x)
960 GB SanDisk Ultra II SATAIII SSD

Performance is quite good. I was able to run glQuake on Win98se with voodoo emulation and the percent meter on the titlebar rarely if ever dipped below 100%. I had the emulated system configured as a 233MHz Pentium MMX.

Host machine:
i7-3820 @4.2GHz
16GB DDR3
GTX670
Windows 10 x64

PCem is running:
Award430VX
S3 Virge/DX
AWE32
With Vodoo 1 enabled
Win95 4.00.950 C installed

With the CPU set to P1 MMX 233 and with games that run with the emulator utilization at 100% (I'm assuming that's what the percentage in the title bar represents - tends to be games that use 3Dfx) I'd say performance is comparable to the old P1 133Mhz machine I used to play games on. With a lot of 2d games the percentage sits at around 45-50% and performance is very sluggish and choppy. Sim City 2000 is the best example, running very slowly unless you open one of the drop down menus or set the game speed to "African Swallow" where the utilization jumps back to 100% and it runs at full speed. This also happens during a lot of games installation programs, I'm not sure what causes this behavior.
Direct3d games don't seem to perform as well either, with performance more like a very early Pentium.

Been having a great time with this emulator and it's very impressive. If CPU performance can be improved it will be nothing short of incredible.

PCem is quite CPU demanding, I'll give you that, but I tried SC2K with a Pentium MMX 233 and it runs always at 100% with all in game speeds.

That doesn't look like the Win95 version though. Which version are you running?
Here's how it looks on my system:
https://i.sli.mg/v79WHM.jpg

Edit:
I disabled hyper threading and speed step to see if that would speed things up, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference unfortunately.
It also chugs right through the games intro logos etc, but as soon as the menu pops up or a drop down menu is invoked the music starts playing at full speed, PCem goes back up to 100% and CPU usage on the host drops down:
https://i.sli.mg/2LHDCa.png
Maybe the game pauses everything going on in the background and just thinks about the menu or maybe there's something funny going on in the emulator, I don't know, I don't have a great deal of knowledge on this stuff.

Ok, I found the Windows 95 version, it's called "Simcity 2000 Special Edition"
With you same config, Pentium MMX 233 most of the time at 100% in my case. Sometimes drop a little bit, but nothing to be worried about, totally playable

PS: I guess you should open a new topic if you want to continue talking about sc2k...

Desktop:

- Gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard

- AMD Athlon II X4 640 (3 Ghz. x 4 cores)

- 4 Gb. RAM

- Windows 10

- NVIDIA GTX 650

Systems up to 486DX2 computers work fine, Pentium emulation seems to need more horsepower to achieve constant framerates.

I have a Pentium Dual-Core E5700 @ 3.0 GHz. I tried Little Big Adventure 2 on PCem, and it's now after all the improvements, mostly at 100% (well, fluctuating 99-102%) on Pentium 75 with Cache Inifinite, though that's the DOS version - the Windows 95 version of the game is a little bit slower. But in some parts, even the DOS version mysteriously goes as far down as 82%. And this is with DirectDraw set. With Direct3D it's about 5% lower in general. In comparison, Little Big Adventure 1 is at solid 100% even with Direct3D.

I have poor i5 2410M 2.3? but PCem always run at 2.7 , and it is well enough to run p90 , on winn98 and most games on p100/50 at 100% .
BTW new voodoo 2 emulation is much faster. Thank You.
