Re: PCem v17 running slow/lagging

About 1-2 years ago, I tested PCem on an 8th generation Intel core i7 laptop. Performance was better than what many people reported with older PCs in spite of the fact that they were running 6th generation core i7 machines with decent 4-4.2 Ghz speeds. The 8th gen laptops I tested were not fancy ali...

Re: PCem v17 running slow/lagging

I have not noticed any of these issues with the P2 233 or the Voodoo 3. Even the Voodoo 3 3000 runs really well on my PC. I have some occasional graphical problems with the Voodoo 3, but nothing like what I read in this topic. My early P2 450 tests with Jedi Knight last month revealed very promising...

Re: v17 released!

I was highly surprised by this release too! Sarah should be awarded the Order of the British Empire  I agree. Version 17 of PCem is an amazing achievement. I am still testing the program but so far I am very impressed with how amazing PCem v17 really is. Sarah should indeed be awarded the ...

Re: Combining Voodoo 3 + Voodoo 2 SLI

Thank you for clarifying this matter. I felt the idea was worth investigating, and I am glad both of you clarified this matter as I am sure others would have tried it, or simply asked about it here. PCem was always an exciting program, but v17 has made it much more appealing to Win98 users. Pentium ...

Combining Voodoo 3 + Voodoo 2 SLI

I am curious, is there a way to combine the Voodoo 3 (or the Banshee) with the Voodoo 2? This would mean two voodoo cards on the same machine with the goal of improving system performance when playing 3D-accelerated games. If so, is there a possibility of adding Voodoo 2 SLI? This would of course me...

Re: v17 compatibility & bug list

So far v17 of PCem is a complete success. I have some more testing to do but so far performance of the Pentium 2 and the Voodoo 3 is very promising. For some reason the PII 350 reads as a PII 333 on the boot screen. I do not know if this is easy to fix. Performance of the Pentium 2 350 is pretty goo...

Re: v17 released!

Thank you Sarah. I am amazed by v17 of PCem. Pentium 2 emulation is very fast, and the Voodoo 3 is impressive. I have been testing this version of PCem in an XP VM on VMware, so this is pretty good. I can confirm that results depend on which game is being run through PCem. I have quite a bit more te...

Re: v17 compatibility & bug list

leilei, you found some graphical errors with NHL 99 and I am curious to know if these were related to the in-game text when playing a match, specifically the in-game menus and scoreboards. My NHL 2000 tests sadly report the same graphical issues with the Voodoo 3 as I saw with the Voodoo 2 and the V...

Re: What are the ROM files?

PCem is the best way to run most Win9x games and programs. The same goes for Win 3.1 and DOS. PCem will run almost any of the old programs for these old operating systems without the need for any compatibility fixes or patches. The Pentium, Pentium MMX, 386, 486, even K6-2 machines can be emulated i...

Re: v17 compatibility & bug list

While i did mention that Jedi Academy works, It's a little different than Outcast as it lacks overbrights. However there's a very weird bug with the character creation screen that causes the inner 3d viewport to focus above the head when the head is selected, which has me thinking it's a CPU bug. D...

RAM Size Config Issue

There is a strange RAM config issue in v16. It does not pop up in every instance but typically when I try to set the RAM with my keyboard for a Pentium MMX system in v16, if I type in 64mb of RAM PCem will immediately read 48mb of RAM. I then have to use my mouse to set the RAM at the desired size. ...

Thanks for posting all of these great PC ads from the 90s. Back then having one of these great games was often good enough for a whole year or more. This being said, I did not even try X-Wing Alliance until about 2012. I never liked Star Wars Episode 1 the Phantom Menace PC game, but I loved Episode...

PCem is by far the best way to run any Win95 program. Once you are all set you are ready to go. PCem is that good. It is a very small number of programs that do not work with PCem. PCem is possibly the best compatibility tool for modern PCs. The day I can connect PCem to a laser printer and print do...

Re: Most affordable CPU to emulate the most powerful CPU without stutter?

I get fairly good PCem performance on my i7 9750H powered lenovo laptop. I much prefer the Pentium MMX over the K6-2, the latter of which is not as smooth or dependable. Pentium MMX performance is top notch, with no sound stuttering in-game. Even video works well. PCem has evolved to the point I cou...

My experience with the K6-2 300 Mhz on just a socket 7 motherboard was positive. Star Trek Armada II, a game that requires a Pentium II 300 or an AMD Athlon processor of similar performance, ran just fine on the K6-2 300 on that socket 7 motherboard. Re: GPU requirements?

You would want a CPU exceeding 4 Ghz to run a Pentium MMX in PCem at top performance. For the DOS and early Pentium I tasks you have described above I think your AMD Phenom II X6 will do a fine job. You would certainly get a Pentium 100 working without performance problems.

Thank you for your question. For your 10gb hard drive, 20807 cylinders will set the size to the amount you want. The number of heads and sectors would stay the same (default PCem). The size of my emulated hard drives is always dependent on the task at hand. I never used the AWE32, so I would not kno...
