Re: PCem build guide

Actually it was broken. The "Hard disc controllers can now be selected on all machines." commit is very old and the old config code was not adjusted then. I was using a config file copied from another folder, when i changed the graphics card the controller changed to none. It showed intern...

Re: PCem build guide

Somehow i've managed to compile v13.1 using this guide. The classic win32 port still worked then and broke a few commits later. There are a few serious problems with the guide though. It doesn't make sense to install components and then uninstall them afterwards, besides if you need gcc 4.7.2 for so...

Re: compile v9 to run on win98

Yeah i noticed v9 could not run on 98 due to raw input requiring XP. I want to run DOS games in an emulator, perhaps it's better to use DOSBox as those old PCem versions had many bugs. Seems V9 is doable without raw input though. I could just install XP instead, most windows 9x games ran on XP and i...

Re: Future graphics card emulation

Some smart guy at the 86Box discord wrote this:
it´s the trio64, not trio64v+
the video bios is provided by the machine bios
all you need to do is add a trio64 without bios bar
at the right pci slot (08)

Re: Serious performance issues

And surprisingly today is running fine with the trident. I only hibernated the host machine, not even restarted it. I changed to the cirrus and back to the trident yesterday and the issue only happened with the trident cards. This must be some obscure problem.
Edit: and today it's slow again.

Re: Serious performance issues

I've tried the 9440 with a late driver (w95-9685.exe) and it's the same plus severe graphics problems. Changing to the cirrus cl-gd5430 fixes the issue. So something is wrong with the emulation of those trident cards. Note that the cirrus 5429 is essentially broken on windows as i posted in the othe...

Re: Serious performance issues

It's the 9400CXi, the 9440 was accelerated. I had that card back in the day, i also own several real 9440 pci. The driver is the trident svga, i've downloaded another specific one for higher color depth and i'll try it but i think it will be the same, i'm using just 256 colors. No problem with a 386...

Re: Serious performance issues

Same driver for both machines, auto and i guess it's D3D. Intel GMA 4500M. I tried changing driver but didn't help. Overall cpu usage is 36%. I think i've found it, it's the trident driver included with win95, that card was not accelerated. The other machine has a cirrus 5430. But i don't understand...

Serious performance issues

Machine: SIS 496/497? I've created a win95 SIS 486 PCI machine with a DX4-100, a trident 9400 and a soundblaster 2.0. On my host machine performance is very poor and cpu speed oscillates between 70 and 100% on win95 desktop. My host is a pentium dual core @2.16 and host CPU usage is very low, core 0...

Re: broken keyboard layout on phoenix XT?

Something i forgot it's ms-dos 3.30. Same with US layout, right alt kills the keyboard and right ctrl leaves control locked.
And i never could type \ with the spanish layout.
Edit: broken keyboard on all XT machines, don't know since when, 86Box works.

Re: broken keyboard layout on phoenix XT?

Also found that right ctrl keeps control stuck and reset is required. Alt Gr kills the keyboard, reset needed again. My laptop has a spanish keyboard as well.

broken keyboard layout on phoenix XT?

How do i write the "\" character with the spanish keyboard layout? With the US layout it should be at the left of the "z" but that key does nothing and it's at the opposite side of the keyboard (to the right).
Edit: Right control + ALT keeps control stuck and i need to reset.

Cirrus CL-GD5429: graphics corruption in DOS after loading windows 95

Machines: AMI 486 clone 16 MB, MR 386DX 8 MB, most likely all of them. Windows 95 RTM. 800x600 desktop with the included driver. Launching a fullscreen dos box or restarting in ms-dos mode you get wrong characters in text mode and no Doom startup banner. Doom 2 doesn't work, you get vertical lines w...
