120 games tested (1995 to 2001 era)

I decided to make my own topic to share with everyone all of the games I've tested on PCem. The vast majority was on v15, and a few on v16, but I'm going to safely assume that there isn't any negative changes from the update. The setup I used was the Pentium 200mhz, 3DFX Voodoo2 SLI, S3 ViRGE/DX, 12...

Re: Voodoo3 support in Future ?

You know what? I completely forgot that the Mystique was 2D/3D like the ViRGE. I was never familiar with Matrox, and barely remember them back in the late '90s!

In regards to 2D, is the ViRGE/DX (or Diamond Stealth 3D?) the newest ones in PCem? My knowledge on 2D and pre-3D in general is limited.

Re: Voodoo3 support in Future ?

I think that the Voodoo2 is the most logical choice for PCem, it always has been. It was viable for most games all the way until mid-2000, which is unbelievable considering the landscape at the time. With that being said, any other card that Sarah might consider (I tried asking in another topic her ...

Always excited for a new version. Thanks to everyone that helped!

The lack of Mistique doesn't bother me much, but Sarah, if you had a personal preference for a different 3D card to work on, which would it be? Just curious.

Re: COVID-19 and v16

Yeah, ~8 hours of your normal job and then ~8 hours of PCem, all in the same exact room? That does not sound like a grand ol' time tbh. At least you're being safe. Over here in Cali, things are getting surreal. I can't work from home; however, only 1 other person is at my job besides me, so that's a...

Re: Macromedia/Quicktime Games Cause Slowdown

I can confirm it happens on other games too. I tried 5 a Day Adventures (1995), and it's slow n skips on higher speeds. Drop it down, and it's alright. The game heavily utilizes QuickTime 2.1 I believe. At the time, I tried both PowerISO and the built-in drive. I just didn't think anything of it, un...

Re: PCem crashes trying to run Glide game

Up until a few weeks ago, I didn't know the true definition of "abandonware." For awhile, I just assumed that if a product wasn't commercially available to purchase anymore, it's considered abandon; however, it gets more complicated than that, with licenses and properties still being owned by an ent...

I'm not at my PC at the moment but Carma2 worked fine, and I tried the TDR2000 demo, and that worked fine as well.

I also went into an hour rabbithole about DCMA and the archival of old software via an internationally recognized library. Talk about a gray area, sheesh.

I edited my post. Abandonware (such as this particular release) isn't allowed either? I could understand something still copyright-protected.

Thanks. I was gonna say, I haven't tried anything pre-95 on PCEM yet so couldn't help him out.

So DSN, either use DOS 6.22 (if you're not already), or you have a bad ISO/CD.

Re: Need for Speed: Special Edition black screen hang when running installer

Have you tried the original NFS? Only reason why I'm asking is because, although the Special Edition is suppose to support DOS, it was released primarily for Windows 95 support.

Regardless, I tried it on my Windows 98 SE setup, and it works perfectly fine (no DOS lines needed to run it).

Thanks for clarification. I'm no laptop or processor guru. I assumed that because of the power consumption differences, there would be more differences as well.

Re: Performance Degradation From Going Above a Pentium 233?

Naturally, mobile processors are less powerful than a desktop processor. See image attached. In this case, under the Dhrystone test, the regular processors greatly outperform the mobiles, even though they're the same speed. Most of the different tests there has the regular Pentiums higher than the M...

I'm sure this is obvious, but, did you patch the game to 1.21? And then to 1.23?

I tried the demo a few weeks ago, and it worked just fine for me.

Pretty cool! There's a game called Motorhead that was heavily recommended to use the Mystique. It'd be interesting to see how that runs one day.

Re: Is it possible to boot a guest from usb?

Referring to an earlier post...I wanted to buy an external USB ZIP drive online. I have some ZIP discs that I haven't been able to access in almost 15 years.

If it doesn't work with my Win10, is it somehow possible to make it work via PCEM, just in case? I'm just trying to prepare myself.

Yeah I've looked over it twice, but no pattern that I can see. You're probably right. I have the CD version of Carma, before the Splat Pack came out, and I had to download the "unofficial" patch for 3DFX. I'm glad you caught Prey, forgot about that. I never played the "final 2006 version." I don't t...

Re: sufficient host hardware for Win98SE and WinME?

They'll be fine for apps, yeah. And I thought the percentage you're referring to is PCEM's emulation speed percentage, which is shown on the top bar of the PCEM window. If you're talking about the CPU percentage in Task Manager, then I can't judge by that alone.

Re: sufficient host hardware for Win98SE and WinME?

In order to run Voodoo games, it's suggested to use a processor that's 4ghz or more. Even more so, the processor needs to have good single thread performance. That Intel I3 won't run any Windows 9x games, and that AMD might run a Pentium 133 but I'm not certain. Check single thread performance here:...

Well, the DF games work on modern systems, the community has made patches and stuff, to go online. I also haven't done much networking on PCEM. I did try Interstate '76, but it kicks me off online games after about 10 seconds sadly. I play QC as well but I also haven't touched it in weeks. That game...

Re: Savestates + scanlines possible ?!

At the top of your PCEM screen, Video --> Render driver --> OpenGL 3.0

Then, Video --> OpenGL 3.0 renderer --> Shader manager --> Add, then just add whatever shader file you downloaded

I almost never use shaders, and so I can't help you any more than this. You'll have to experiment.

Believe it or not, there's still an online community for the game. People still play DF1 every Sunday, and there's usually people playing DF2 every day around afternoon or evening (EST). DFLW gets the occasional players every day, while TFD only has people playing co-op strangely. BHD is still activ...
