Re: 120 games tested (1995 to 2001 era)
Wow, I completely forgot that I made this topic back in April 2020 lol. I'm glad a few others are still mass-testing games. Since 2020, I've probably put over 400 games thru PCem, but only '95 to '01 era. I kept flip-flopping between different setups (Voodoo1 & Voodoo2 & Voodoo2 SLI & Ba...

Re: PCem v18 News (Was v17 Notice)
I've managed to get UT (and most games, up to 2001) to run at 100%. And my Intel CPU is from 2017. But I guess AMD's CPUs, at least up until last year's models, weren't great at single thread performance. I completely agree that PCem is great for testing how well someone's CPU is. More realistic tha...

Re: PCem windows 95 not detecting CD for certain games
I know this might not be an issue for you, but I recently found out that when I edit my autoexec and sys files (so that I can load CD-ROM drivers for my DOS games), it also has the adverse effect of disabling AutoRun (and screwing with the CD-ROM emulation). So make sure those 2 files are blank when...

Re: is pcem v18 cancelled?
The constant inquisitions is a pain in the arse. Completely understandable. But it is a drastic change from the way Sarah presented things. PCem been around for a long time and a lot of folks are accustomed to the progress updates/once-a-year-or-so stable releases/lists of tasks. So going from that ...

Re: PCem v18 News (Was v17 Notice)
Concerning v18, the obvious has been said. Open-source etiquette etc etc. However, and this might be a bit controversial, but I think people asking about a new version is justified. Mainly because of the standards and expectations that Sarah has set with PCem after the past several years. She releas...

Re: Game refuses to work - after 10 ISO softwares and running direct from CD
While in Win98 in PCEM, goto Start > run > type in dxdiag.exe Screenshot the first window that pops up. Also, screenshot the Display tab too. This will help confirm if you got everything installed right. Also, what do you mean by "it doesn't work"? Black screen? Won't launch at all? Error ...

Am surprised that wasn't your initial notice/announcement. Seems like a handful of people are curious about V18 and the next solidified step of development.

Thank you for all the responses. ruben, I appreciate taking the time to screenshot as well. That regedit tip about removing devices will deff come in handy! As it turns out, the problem was, unsurprisingly, my fault. Lol. Awhile back, I had forgotten that I edited the autoexec.bat and config.sys fil...

CD-ROM drive only partially works - unsure if Win98 or PCem bug
Randomly, out of nowhere, the CD-ROM drive in my setup buggered out. I can still see the drive connected, and I can still load any actual disks or image files, but something got changed and I don't know what. The AutoPlay feature never works, games no longer recognize if anything is loaded, and the ...

Re: Problem with Voodoo Graphics in Interstate 76
Personally I'm using Pentium MMX Overdrive 180mhz, Voodoo2 SLI (though I sometimes have to disable the SLI via the 3dfx settings on the desktop for certain games to work), S3 Virge, Windows 98se, DirectX 7.0 (last one to officially support Voodoo2 if I remember right), 3.02.02 of the Voodoo2 drivers...

Thanks to Sarah for allowing the project to continue, and for sticking around a little bit. Advisory never hurts. Michael, appreciate you stepping up and taking over. Is the Matrox emulation still dead in the water? Even though it seemed really unique, simultaneously, I can see it being too big of a headache. Also, I know someone mentioned the Number Nine Imagine 128, and that's basically a CAD card. But are there resources available for the Number Nine Revolutio...

Re: How fast of a PCem CPU?
Since you've got an I7 Intel processor, you might get a little bit (but not a lot) of a performance gain by using one of those CPU Core or similar (free) programs. It'll dedicate the cores to your selected program (PCem) and also constrains other background processes. I have an I5 7400 and on PCem v...

Re: PCem Logo
This is just my suggestion, but for an icon, I tend to use whatever OS I'm screwing around with. For example, I'm using the old Windows 98 .ico file for my PCem shortcut. Or for DOS, I use the old MSDOS Prompt .ico file instead.

I know this sounds basic, but have you tried enabling (or disabling) SLI on the Voodoo2? Some games require or don't support it. Also, try lowering Hardware Acceleration (right click desktop, properties, settings tab, performance tab). Also, depending on the game, some try to default to the other ca...

I decided to make my own topic to share with everyone all of the games I've tested on PCem. The vast majority was on v15, and a few on v16, but I'm going to safely assume that there isn't any negative changes from the update. The setup I used was the Pentium 200mhz, 3DFX Voodoo2 SLI, S3 ViRGE/DX, 12...

The lack of Mistique doesn't bother me much, but Sarah, if you had a personal preference for a different 3D card to work on, which would it be? Just curious.

I can confirm it happens on other games too. I tried 5 a Day Adventures (1995), and it's slow n skips on higher speeds. Drop it down, and it's alright. The game heavily utilizes QuickTime 2.1 I believe. At the time, I tried both PowerISO and the built-in drive. I just didn't think anything of it, un...
