Re: PCem minimum software requirements?
For the x86 targets, the absolute minimum's a CPU with SSE2 extensions. For the Windows requirements, the WxWidgets and SDL2 parts will bite.

Re: PCem v18 News (Was v17 Notice)
My personal sources for drivers had been: - GLSetup = 3dfx V1/V2/V3 drivers for Win9X, lazy installer from certain 1999-2001 game discs that involve OpenGL (starting from Quake III Arena and ending around Serious Sam The Second Encounter), also useful for any other decent enough 3d card of the 98-99...

Re: Alien Carnage configuration menu not responding!
I doubt it's 'developers messing with players' but more developers not bothering with a menu selection routine for configuration. Some games did that (especially in the 286 era), it's only a step beyond Y/N questions about wanting music or sound from the amiga days

Re: I need help with setting up a 486 DOS machine
On some of the autodetection boards you'll need to manually detect and configure a drive and then enable LBA or LARGE elsewhere to use larger drives. Earlier 486 boards likely won't have the choice. I prefer the AMI WinBIOS for socket 3 because that's what my VIP 486 was (though the emulated board i...

Re: PCem's biggest limitation for 3D accelerted games
Voodoo3's among the fastest of the pre-Geforce256 GPUs in 1999, the most widely supported (primary Direct3D+OpenGL device, Glide3, plus the bunch of prior Glide2 games), and it had the most technical information available for longer so it's the most logical to emulate. The issue for years are today'...

Re: Unable to install Intel Chipset Utility drivers on PCem win98SE
Intel chipset drivers typically are for later boards than the 430VX that would need them for AGP and DMA purposes (among other things). They're not neccessary for Triton boards, especially as Win98se already come with device drivers that work fine with them. If you needed an Intel chipset driver to ...

Re: Cat amongst the pigeons
It's all trial and error and drops when: - there's too many blocks to recompile, which can happen with video decoding more often, and self-modifying code - too much frames rendered to keep up, which can occur with Voodoo cards not being vsynced on slower processors - I/O access can also be a factor,...

Re: Win98 in PCem
I'm assuming these refusing 90s games are modern source ports compiled on later VisualC 201X's and GCCs after 4 or GoG releases with additional support DLLs to smoothen the modern windows compatiblity experience. There was no XP in the 90s so that shouldn't be necessary. I think the only company tha...

Re: PCem v18 News (Was v17 Notice)
I'm very content with the performance from K6/233 emulation and that's adequate for a lot of stuff from early 2002 and earlier (having dealt with PCs of a similar performance target at the time). The real cutoff is the later 2002 stuff that demanded DXTC and HWT&L as there was an emerging DX7/8-...

No. PCem doesn't emulate any 5.1 card, but it does emulate an AudioPCI which can work with A3D for some HRTF'd 2 channel sound, which Half-Life can do.

Yep, the raw image file format hasn't changed. I've booted some old img backups of hard drives dumped with WinImage and DD from long ago.
You can also do the reverse. I've once DD'd a prepared PCem img with xfdisk + several windows installs to a HDD on a real computer and it worked.

Windows 9x does heavy access when it boots and that's a bottleneck to the emulation when it does and it happens to everybody.

Re: If you have problems with the VM window title bar being off the screen
Having the window set to be resizable helps, because then it'll nudge the window downward when you do.
on modern watered down versions of Windows, you'll have to shift-rightclick on PCem in the task bar to access the move window feature.

Re: 3dfx voodoo 3 2000/3000 game resolution problem
A lot of older Glide games didn't futureproof (nor couldn't) for Banshee's breaking of the resolution limits. For Glide, only newer games using Glide3x released in 1999+ should be more hi-res aware. Otherwise it'll be Direct3D and OpenGL (no MiniGL) for older hirez-able games. This goes both directi...

Re: Can PCem Interface to Hardware?
If it's about industrial use to replace hardware, please be aware that PCem is designed for entertainment and does not offer full floating point precision (otherwise it'd be way too slow and unusuable). All FPU emulators take performance shortcuts and this is also true for 6th+ gen console emulators...

Yeah, this AWE32 isn't plug 'n play. You'll always have to add new hardware manually or let it do the exhaustive search, and then you can install the AWE32/64 software.

Re: My goal = 200 MHz
The comfortable clockspeed on a 201X Intel Core processor that can reach 200mhz emulation's usually 4ghz. 4ghz was a very common stable overclock as well, but that's relegated to "K" processors. (2500k and up etc.)
