Re: 120 games tested (1995 to 2001 era)
I've tested over 250 games so far on my emulated Pentium II 350, 64 MB RAM, ViRGE/DX (using Diamond Stealth 2000 Pro v3.04 Bios and July 1998 drivers), Voodoo 2 (Non-SLI, October 1998 drivers), SoundBlaster 128, Windows 95B, Direct X6 machine and noticed certain differences regarding the list above:...

Re: Dynarec regressions are related to page flipping
Just tried v14, the last version of PCem that included the old dynamic recompiler.
I'm testing Mobile Pentium 300 MMX (my host CPU is i9 12900KF). No regressions so far and no dips below 100% even on Future Shock and SkyNet.

Re: Dynarec regressions are related to page flipping
No, it's about emulator's speed (and therefore its capability to properly handle processors at certain frequencies in specific cases) being dropped due to faults in its code and not fps.

Dynarec regressions are related to page flipping
Like I previously suspected, dynarec regressions are indeed related to page flipping. Earlier today I experimented a bit with my custom PCem build which had the unfinished Matrox Mystique emulation enabled. I tested the old freeware game called Bubble Puzzle '97 to see how it would work with this ca...

Re: Cat amongst the pigeons
Turion II P520 is not suitable for emulation of the Gigabyte motherboard-based configurations since it's waaay too slow. I wouldn't go above 486 with this system.

Re: Akte Europa optimisation
What emulated graphics card are you using? I would recommend Virge here since it's fast and known for having a good compatibility. Back in the day, minimum requirements usually meant that the game would be at least runnable or barely playable on such configuration (we usually considered recommended ...

Re: Is there a way to increase the CD Audio volume?
Currently, there are some CD audio issues in PCem. In Screamer 2, for example, CD audio is so quiet that you can barely hear it even when you set the PCem's sound output and host computer volume level to the max. On the other hand, in a number of games that I've tried CD audio and MIDI were consider...

Re: Voodoo2 texture problem
I believe it's similar to what I reported earlier: https://github.com/sarah-walker-pcem/pcem/issues/25 Happens only in D3D and with Voodoo 2 not Voodoo 3, Voodoo Banshee or Voodoo Graphics, regardless of which driver version is used. I think it's due to bug in Voodoo 2 emulation. I noticed issues in...

Re: which is the best way benchmarking different cpus?
However, it seems a bit arbitrary to limit PCem performance based on a subset of software that the dynamic recompiler handles poorly. I specifically took that into account while testing. There are currently dynarec-related regressions that happen regardless of the guest CPU speed. This is a differe...

Re: which is the best way benchmarking different cpus?
I tried different benchmarking tools, however, the problem was that some of them caused regressions and some gave inaccurate results. For example, 3D Mark 99 reports 78 fps as the average during the first test (a racing game). This is simply not true as the actual rendering speed feels slower than w...

Re: which is the best way benchmarking different cpus?
It might seem a bit awkward that a 1996 or 1998 adventure that requires no more than P75 is more difficult to emulate at 100% speed than System Shock 2, Quake 3 Arena or 3D Mark 2000 given the system requirements, but that's how it is. Apparently, something is making host CPUs to struggle more when ...

Re: which is the best way benchmarking different cpus?
Indeed, it's impossible to benchmark PCem performance based on how single application behaves. However, there are certain applications that are significantly more demanding than others (such as the ones mentioned above) and being able to run them at 100% indicates that you will be able to run other ...

Re: which is the best way benchmarking different cpus?
The best way to benchmark capabilities of the host CPU would be to run more demanding SVGA games such as Journeyman Project III and Zork Grand Inquisitor. 3D Mark 2000 isn't the best way to measure how far can you push your host CPU since Voodoo card emulation can take the advantage of up to 4 rende...

Have you tried adding the card by selecting Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel?
I've just tried this. I'm running Windows 95 on Gigabyte board and was able to get the card working without issues.

Re: Future graphics card emulation
It's a disassembler. Might be of use to those willing to write the code of Rendition Verite-based cards in the future. Not that it would be much needed since PCem already emulates better 2D and 3D solutions. The first Rendition chip (the V1000) that was released in the Fall of 1996 was famous for be...

In that case you'll need to download a crack file for that game. Ask Google for more details. I cannot post any links here, unfortunately.

Is this game copy protected? If it is, then the only way to get it working under PCem might be to obtain a cracked .exe file.

Re: cd-rom drive
Using host machine's optical drives under PCem is not recommended. Instead, you should create backup copies of your discs with software like Daemon Tools, Clone CD, Alcohol 120%, UltraISO or similar. If the disc you wish to use is a data CD then saving it as .iso is enough. If it's a mixed mode CD ...

Ah, I see now he was trying to install a pre-OSR 2 version. In that case, using a bootdisk compatible with earlier Win95 releases might solve the problem here. If not, then something else is to blame.

Re: Windows 95 on ASUS P/I-P55TVP4 Unable to Install: Disk-Cache Utility Found?
I'm not sure why you still get the warnings about disk compression. Probably related to using a newer version of fdisk from a boot disk for Win95 OSR2 or Win98. Definitely not the case here. I've been using my old Win 95 OSR 2 bootdisk from back in the day and the 98 bootdisk for Windows 98 SE inst...

I see you actually formatted the drive already. Just in case, here's how to do the whole process: Using Windows 95 bootdisk, you first enter fdisk command at the command prompt. Select option 1. The computer will then ask you if you wish to enable support for large drives. Select "yes" sin...
