Re: Reoccurring error message with Windows 2000: A debugger has been detected
All my games are UK releases. By default, I always have the hidden files option turned on.

Re: Reoccurring error message with Windows 2000: A debugger has been detected
I've tried UnSafeDisc and other similar software in the past, however, none of them managed to get the games running under PCem. That's why I'm using cracked exe files in order to be able to run games such as SimCity 3000, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Silver, Heart of Darkness, Blood 2, Discworld Noir, NFS...

Re: Reoccurring error message with Windows 2000: A debugger has been detected
Note that PCem is currently not suitable for running Zoo Tycoon 2 due to the game requiring at least a 733 Mhz processor. And even on it, it would run very sluggishly. I'm not sure if Voodoo 3 can actually handle the game, either.

Re: Reoccurring error message with Windows 2000: A debugger has been detected
Older versions of Daemon Tools come with the emulation of various copy protection technologies so they might be of help. In that case, you'd have to copy the image files to your virtual HDD and then mount these files with Daemon Tools inside your VM.

Re: Reoccurring error message with Windows 2000: A debugger has been detected
These games are copy protected and as such won't start even when discs are ripped properly due to the fact that PCem currently doesn't emulate any of the copy protection technologies such as SafeDisc and SecuROM that were widely used around 2000. The only way to get these games working is to replace...

Re: PCem drops below 100% when running games in 2002?
The only way to get rid of the lag issue is to reduce the CPU speed of your emulated machine. The game requires a Pentium II 233 Mhz processor to work.

I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my ENTIRE life! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. No it's NOT super easy to find one unless you scrounge on Ebay and hope your not getting a dog. So is PCEM dead? No news for a long time. I hope the new manager didn't get immediately overwhelmed due to so much focus on 'realism'. If you feel overwhelmed don't be afraid to make sacrifices for performance, etc whatever you feel is necessary to keep the project alive. It's all about balance baby...

Re: HDD DMA problems on GA-686BX and Win98SE
Most stuff from CD ISO images gets installed almost in a snap. Not too long ago I installed some demo version from an old magazine coverdisc from back in the day and the whole process was over in about 15-20 seconds. I remember it took about 5-10 minutes to get that demo installed on my machine back...

Re: HDD DMA problems on GA-686BX and Win98SE
Certain components of the GA-686BX board are emulated, such as its W83977TF SuperIO chip and the PIIX4 82371EB chipset. The thing is that hard disk read/write speeds as well as DMA/UDMA aren't properly emulated yet. I must also remind that benchmarks running on virtual machine could be a bit deceivi...

I've just tested the disk speed using Roadkill's Disk Speed and my test results on an emulated Pentium II 350 are pretty much the same as yours (about 6.5 MB/sec).

https://i.imgur.com/uAzVsf1.png I was seeing how a P2 on my system could handle a realistically heavy load by opening a quicktime based sampler after even torture testing running Half-Life at minimum everything on a Voodoo 3 3000 to max frames only dropped emulation speed to 95%. Re: Future graphics card emulation
The Xemu original Xbox emulator emulates a GeForce 3 and at a pretty good performance too. Would it be possible to make use of this code in PCEM? No (or at least not at this point). Not only it's difficult to write the code to accurately emulate such complex piece of hardware, currently there are n...

Re: Recommendation of laptops
I5 10300h should be able to handle Pentium 200 without stutter, possibly even Pentium II 233. Of course none of this is to be taken 100% for granted. The best would be to test and try. However, given that my old processor (i7 6700) with a Passmark ST rating of 2,300 was able to handle Pentium 166 wi...

Re: How rip or save BIOS from PCs?
It has to be identical, not just very similar. For example: given the current state of emulated devices by PCem, you cannot use the dumped bios of GA-6BXC, another Gigabyte Slot 1 board, since that board is currently not emulated. Attempting to use it as GA-686BX will likely result in black screen. ...

Re: New hardware for PCem v18?
PCem was the first emulator to come with 3Dfx Voodoo 2, Voodoo 3 and Voodoo Banshee support. Also, Soundblaster AWE64 isn't exactly a "newer" card. It was released in mid-to-late 1996 and was based on an old ISA bus. Since several years ago PCem emulates Sound Blaster 128 which is a PCI bu...

I'd go with Pentium II 266 in your case. This processor is still powerful enough to handle that game, especially if you pair it with Voodoo2 or Voodoo3 or Voodoo Banshee.

I tried an internet demo dated July 20 1999 that was on an old magazine coverdisc. I ran it on an emulated Pentium II 333, 64 MB RAM and Voodoo2. I didn't notice any lag. Pentium MMX 300 could be the culprit in your case.

Try it with Pentium II 300 and see if the lag is still present. The game is known to be buggy and suffer from performance-related issues.

Re: Lag while playing a game (Mortyr)
What's your host CPU? Is PCem running at 100% the whole time while playing the game? As far as I know Mortyr shouldn't be too difficult for this configuration to handle. I ran the demo version on my Celeron 300-A and Voodoo 3 2000 back in the day and don't recall getting any performance issues.
