Pre-v14 WIP compat list

Post by leilei »

NOTE:This post will be constantly evolving.

CPU PROBLEMS:
- NFL Blitz 2000 - crashes when loading ingame, including software mode. Occurs in Winchip interpreter as well

VIDEO PROBLEMS:
- Cirrus GD-anything when running any 8bpp DOS app/demo/game while the desktop is in 16bpp or 24bpp.
- Gunmetal DOS causes Voodoo2 to quit PCem. Voodoo Graphics works fine

Code: Select all

Bad CMDFIFO packet 3b89b7ff 001cd758
Bad CMDFIFO packet 3da73c0f 001cd75c
Bad CMDFIFO packet 3a0796b7 001cd774
Bad CMDFIFO0 3d0aefe0
- Magic Carpet 2 has 320x200 VGA issues under Windows 95 on S3 Trio64. Changing to 640x480 by hitting R or windowing and back alleviates this.
- Uprising initializes, displays a empty cockpit, and then crashes PCem when using Voodoo Graphics. (Uprising failing to start on Voodoo2 could be real behavior)
- X-WING (Windows 95 remake version) has trailing issues with S3 Trio64 after you access the ingame pause menu and return to simulation in 640x480x16. Playing with D3D + Voodoo2 is fine. Possibly covers Xwing vs Tie Fighter.

SOUND PROBLEMS:
- Earthworm Jim (DOS, 96 Playmates/RainbowArts/Brainbug) - SB16 sound doesn't work on SB16 and AWE32 despite settings set. CD audio works
- Simcity - PC speaker sounds are distorted and play at the wrong pitch (at least on 386SX)

??? PROBLEMS? Schrodinger's bugs:
- Daytona USA Win95 - Hangs PCem when company logo attempt to play (after attract sequence). CD track does play however. Occurs with SBPCI VXD drivers from 2002. Doesn't occur on SBPCI WDM driver. ALSO OCCURS with AWE32 driver.
- Myth the Fallen Lords - Glide2x.dll crash with Voodoo2. Software works fine. Voodoo Graphics works fine.

V13 bug repeats:
CPU: MDK2 - Fade sequence can't fade. Easy to alleviate when as Kurt or Max, but not as Doc. Occurs in interpreter/recompiler. Not 3dfx specific as this occurs in software-rendered GL as well.
VID: Battlezone II still can't initialize on Voodoo2
VID: Starsiege Tribes (and other possible 3dfx Dynamix games from 97-99) - flickering polygons

WORKS GREAT! (as far as I can tell):
- Doom II, Down Under Dan, Forsaken, Hardwar, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 , Mageslayer, Nerf Arena Blast, Necrodome, NFL Blitz, Quake, Quake 2, Quake III Arena, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Rampage World Tour, Screamer, Screamer 2, Sonic R, Starfleet Command, *Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, Take No Prisoners, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Warcraft II, *Wargasm

*-cracked as PCem can't emulate its CD check.

I was meaning to start a thread like this. Mind if I merge this post with my own list?

Could you also post what configurations you were using on these games? I've been using model/CPU/graphics card/sound card/OS.

Almost need something like a wiki at this point in the project to organize the mountain of information that can come with a compatibility list. Not complaining just thinking you might all be at that point now.

I don't mind the merge.

Everything's a 430VX PMMX233 160mb w/ S3 Trio64 unless otherwise specified. I try to test two configs with W98SE SBPCI/V2 and W95C AWE32/VG variations. Single Voodoo2 only as I never had a SLI setup.

Made an 'official' thread at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2978 - I'll update the list there with any posts made to that thread.

Quick question - for Screamer 2, was that software or 3DFX? I had thought 3DFX mode in Screamer 2 + Rally was broken (and had never worked).

Screamer 2 was run in 640x480x64k software rendering only. Didn't try them on 3dfx (or ViRGE for that matter)

Hello

I recently found a bug, with a DOS game called Wacky Wheels. It does not detects the Gravis Ultrasound Card. The setup menu detects the GUS as sound card for sound effects but when I select as music card it says "Music Card error". I installed the GUS drivers version 4.11. The PlayMIDI utility in c:\ultrasnd directory play MIDI files correctly, and I also loaded UltraMID but the issue remains.

I Tested both, the full and shareware versions of the game in PCem and in Dosbox too. Strangely, the games has the same issue with the two versions of the game and the two emulators.

Can't reproduce. What exact configuration are you using? What drivers? What do the 'VGA issues' look like?

430VX PMMX233 Win95C AWE32. I believe i'm using S3 Trio64 drivers provided by DirectX 6. I'm running this from Win95 (as I did then because I didn't use real-mode CD-ROM TSRs all that much to play from within DOS)

Desktop res is 800x600x16 and it's a 1MB Trio64 card
