There is a thread about the possibility of emulating Voodoo 3 and basically it summarizes to: It isn't really worth, with the current hardware emulated.

So Voodoo 5 is at least many years out of question currently.

I'm fairly certain games that were available from the time the Voodoo 5 came about are playable on modern systems in other ways that don't require emulating an entire machine. There might be a few edge cases, of course, but for the most part it seems like you don't really need full-on machine emulation to enjoy 20 year old Windows games.

No

There should be more education on where 2020 emulation stands vs the 2000+ generations of hardware and the power required for any of them, like bringing more perspective on how much CPU a 1280x1024x32 w/ 4xFSAA scene would require from any 2000 video card...

It's also easy to bring up console emulators and virtualizers like they're shining examples without realizing how structurally and philosophically different they are versus a full-blown low-level PC emulator. It's also easy to assume all Voodoo iterations would be logical despite their major differences.... Voodoo3/4/5 are not more Voodoo2s together.

As noted, we recently discussed the possibilty of the Voodoo3 and it was concluded it was not worth it because current hardware wouldn't handle it, and I believe it the V3 would be much less effective than the current V2 SLI because the V2 SLI can use many threads whereas the V3 would use less for the obvious reason there is no SLI for the V3, BUT emulating the VSA-100 chip would be truly awesome as it scales beautiful and could use lots of threads.

Also it would also allow use to use the unreleased Voodoo5 6000. As everybody know some cards exits but they cost a fortune but having it emulated would bring Voodoo5 6000 to all and to "preserve" the card.

Now, down-to-Earth, VSA-100 and a processors for it (let's say an Athlon 1400?) could come real in no less than 5 years... and I don't think Sarah would continue with PCem for that long :(

There's also no public documentation for the VSA-100, unlike the older 3dfx chips. So this would require a good chunk of reverse engineering.

So not happening. Forget it.
